I cannot say enough positive things about Porter Ophthalmology. From the moment I called to schedule my consult to when I walked out this morning from my post op appointment, the staff were amazing. Dr. Porter and his doctor in training were thorough, pleasant, and made me completely comfortable throughout the entire experience. Also, my vision is better than it was while I was wearing my glasses just yesterday! This is the best thing I could have done for myself and I am so, so pleased with the practice I chose! Someone operating on my eyes was nerve-racking for me. I recommend Porter ophthalmology 1000 times over! I also enjoyed being able to have a cup of coffee or cute little Coca-Cola bottle and snack while I waited. That said, I was very pleased with the wait time. The staff provided me with how long each appointment would take, and they were consistent and accurate. Thank you, Dr. Porter and your team!

Dr Porter did such a great job. He was knowledgeable and professional. He was also super comforting during the lasik procedure itself. He explained exactly what was happening and provided specific guidance along the way. It's clear that his excellent reputation is due to his high level of skill and experience. This is my actual opinion and I got no discount or compensation for this review. You won't go wrong checking this place out.

I've been waiting to write this review until I could see the full effects from my PRK surgery. Dr. Porter is great and has a great staff. Everyone is very personable and flexible. The surgery itself was painless (though it was uncomfortable) and I could see well enough to do day-to-day activities (besides driving) right after the surgery. The healing process was scary and it took about three weeks for me to start to see things regularly. By the three month mark, my vision was slightly better than when I had glasses. I was not particularly nearsighted or farsighted before the surgery; however, I had around -5.00 astigmatism in both of my eyes. I was worried about the surgery for about five years before I finally decided to schedule a consultation. I didn't think I would qualify due to my astigmatism, but I ended up qualifying for PRK instead of LASIK. I have no regrets at all since the surgery and wish I did it sooner. Today, I have no lasting side effects besides slight dry eyes. Immediately after the surgery, I was going through multiple vials of artificial tears per day. Now, I rarely need to use them and only need them when I am playing video games for extended hours or programming.

I'm now 3 months out from having Lasik done, and can now safely say it was one of the best decisions/investments I've ever made. Everything about the process was easy, and everyone I worked with at Porter Ophthalmology was excellent. I'm 46 so don't think you're too old to have this done. It's amazing not having to deal with contacts anymore.

What is the difference between correcting a stigma and correcting long distance vision? What improvement will a person experience when correcting a stigma. What does the Toric lens correct?

Stan Bouchard | Oct 20, 2019
Porter Ophthalmology | Oct 20, 2019

Astigmatism is uneven curvature of the eye, and when astigmatism is not corrected, vision can be blurred or distorted. Correcting long distance vision requires correcting either nearsightedness or farsightedness. In addition to this, to get the best possible distance vision, astigmatism (if present) would need to be corrected as well. A toric lens corrects for astigmatism. -Isaac Porter, MD
