It's a great place for family fun. Go a couple times a month to walk the dog. It's a pretty big park to walk around.

Lots of open areas for running around. Also, a number of non-native trees which probably use more water than trees native to NorCal.

Yes you do not need any permits to have a small gathering.

Does a road in the park connect to Kalamazoo Dr..?

Yeah it does. It brings you into a small parking lot in the back of the park. If you come in that way you'll be closest to the soccer fields but relatively far from the playground, bathrooms and tennis courts. However, this parking lot is much more shaded than the front one.
