Originally, I had hired a different Family Law attorney to represent me through my divorce (I filed). Lo and behold, my first attorney ("highly credentialled"), was the epitome of a "money hungry"/terrible Family Law attorney. Serendipitously, I was referred to NKM; in particular, Rebecca. I couldn't have been happier. Rebecca AND her staff (i.e. Amber) are PHENOMENAL - they will be brash & honest with you (it's divorce, it's often not a happy/clean ending. They prepare your for realistic expectations/outcomes), as well as with opposing parties. They (Rebecca, Amber, & whomever else is "behind the scenes") are nothing short of spectacular. They are brilliant with their advice/insights/recommendations, are extremely well versed in the Wisconsin Laws/what to expect, and most importantly; empathetic, if/when necessary. Rebecca & her staff are PHENOMENAL. Before you hire some other "family law attorney" that claims to/has a legal degree from a "highly prestigious" institution, reach out to NKM.

I worked with Valerie and Connie. They both were extremely pleasant to work with. They worked endlessly to accomplish the best outcome for my son. They were extremely prompt in responding and getting things filed in the courts. No dragging of their feet, they acted quickly. They were very thorough with their work and I couldn't be happier. They assisted me in an emergency situation and they took it seriously from day one. They truly work for what's best for families rather than in it for the money. I felt the complete genuinty with this firm and I'd use them again if needed in the future! I truly felt like they had my sons best interest the entire time. Very happy with the outcome and I can't recommend them enough to family and friends. Worth every penny. Definitely consider hiring Valerie and Connie and her firm. You won't be disappointed! Thank you Valerie and Connie! Sincerely Ashlee

I highly recommend Aislinn M. Penkwitz for her work on my divorce as a fierce advocate who was able to guide me through the compromises and collaborative efforts of the divorce process.

I highly recommend this law firm. They are very knowledgeable attorneys that try to get everything you deserve. I ve worked with both Maddie (no longer with the firm, now is with federal courts) and Valerie. Both ladies should compassion and worked hard on my case to get me everything I had coming to me. I ve had to use them the last 4x I had to go to court and I won all 4x. If you want a law firm that will fight hard for you look no further.

Questions & Answers

What is the purpose of a legal separation?

Nelson, Krueger & Millenbach, LLC | Oct 18, 2021
Nelson, Krueger & Millenbach, LLC | Oct 18, 2021

A legal separation allows spouses to live apart and maintain separate finances without dissolving the marriage. Spouses might stay married for religious reasons or in hopes of reconciliation, or for practical reasons such as staying on a spouse’s health insurance.

How is child support calculated?

Nelson, Krueger & Millenbach, LLC | Oct 18, 2021
Nelson, Krueger & Millenbach, LLC | Oct 18, 2021

The Wisconsin child support guidelines are based on the number of children, the percentage of placement and the incomes of both parents. If the child lives more than 75% of the time with one parent, the formula is based on a percentage of the other parent’s income.

How can a father win a custody battle?

Nelson, Krueger & Millenbach, LLC | Oct 18, 2021

The law does not favor either parent in determining custody. A father seeking primary custody must demonstrate to the court that he has been the primary caregiver, that he can provide a more stable environment or that it is in the child’s best interests to live with Dad.

Can a dissolution be changed?

In general, you cannot change a property settlement after the divorce decree (dissolution) is issued. But either party can ask the court to modify custody, child support or spousal maintenance orders if there has been a significant change in circumstances.

Can I get a divorce if my spouse won’t sign?

Yes, in Wisconsin either spouse can obtain a divorce, even if the other party objects. A “contested divorce” is a dispute over the details of divorce, but a spouse cannot make you stay married.
