Dr. Lam helped me back in 2006 before online reviews were a thing, but I was just speaking to someone about my experience with him and felt the need acknowledge the amazing experience I had. Dr. Lam, please forgive me for taking so long. I was in a very unfortunate situation where my nose was bitten off by a dog. I remember feeling like I looked like the elephant man. I had this huge fear because of the uncertainty on how I would look. I remember there was one night when I was going through the healing process and it was a Friday or Saturday night and I lost it! I broke down crying and felt overwhelmed. I called Dr. Lam and he answered. Not a service, him. I could tell he was at an event and he answered! I was a crying bubbling mess and he took the time to calm me down and reassure me that everything would be ok, that everything was fine, and that it was part of the process. This is just one example of how profound my interaction was with Dr. Lam. 16 years later I still cherish his care for me as a patient. Dr. Lam, thank you!

I tried to schedule a consultation… I wanted to get a procedure done before my birthday, there is a $100 consultation fee that was demanded early on from the rude office staff that answered the phone, and I explained I would like to make sure I can schedule prior to my birthday before I pay the non-refundable consultation fee. The staff member was super rude and super short. I said “I really don’t want to throw away $100 on a consultation if I can’t even get the procedure done, is there no way to just check the schedule to see how far out he’s scheduling procedures”? And she again huffed rudely and said “again, not without paying the consultation fee FIRST”. I would NEVER go to this office and deal with such rude and non-compassionate staff. Clearly it’s all about money and not patient care or patient satisfaction. Yuck!

What is the BOTOX jaw reduction procedure all about?

Samuel M. Lam, MD, FACS - Lam Facial Plastics | Oct 19, 2019
Sam Lam | Oct 19, 2019

Botox Jaw reduction is something that must be done with skill. It is used to modify the fullness of the outer lower face, particularly the masseter muscle. It can be done for someone with chronic grinding and teeth clenching and really help save the teeth along with reducing pain, popping, migraines etc. Typically, after one painless treatment, you will be able to feel improvement in your symptoms within a week or even a few days. For cosmetic facial shrinking, you may see a little after 2 weeks but oftentimes it takes 4 to 6 weeks to see the optimal difference. You should repeat the treatment every 6 months if you grind excessively and if you don't you can oftentimes repeat at 6 months, then wait a 9-month interval, then oftentimes once a year or less often. It can also shrink the size of the parotid gland which makes saliva (but you should not have dry mouth), to help reduce the width of the face. But you don't have to clench to do this. You may just have a wide or heavy face

How many grafts are needed to restore eyebrows?

Samuel M. Lam, MD, FACS - Lam Facial Plastics | Oct 19, 2019

Each eyebrow could require 250-400 grafts. It depends on the size of eyebrow you are seeking. The graft count is important but there are so many other things that are far more important. Eyebrow hair transplant is the hardest thing for a beginner surgeon to do well. In fact, I tell all of the students at my course who think they want to start doing eyebrows because there are few grafts needed that in fact it is the hardest thing to do and they should wait until they have mastered all other aspects of hair restoration before getting close to doing this. It requires both an amazing surgeon and amazing team. You need both. Also, a huge thing that has made a difference is using regenerative techniques like PRP, ACell, HypoThermosol, and ATP, which have profoundly helped achieve great results after a single session. I believe we can get wonderful results after a single eyebrow transplant session that may take others 2 to 3 rounds to achieve.

ARE ALL HAIR TRANSPLANTS THE SAME? HOW CAN I COMPARE CLINICS/SURGEONS?

Samuel M. Lam, MD, FACS - Lam Facial Plastics | Oct 19, 2019
Sam Lam | Oct 19, 2019

This could be a very long answer. There are SO many factors that can make a difference in hair restoration. I will try to be as concise as I can. 1. Having the surgery performed in a Joint Commission accredited surgical facility rather than an office (where most hair transplants are performed) means that you can have an almost entirely painless procedure with the highest standard of safety. 2. The surgeon (me) needs to be very artistic in his recipient-site and hairline design but also perform meticulous graft harvesting whether via FUE and FUT. 3. The team must be the best. Emina who heads the team has won so many awards and has literally written the book for assistants. She is focused on absolute quality control and has published and taught on this subject around the world. 4. Regenerative medicine techniques: it is critical to have the best "fertilizers" for hair to grow and there are simply too few hair transplant clinics that use the full gamut of what's available.

Is hair transplant for females the same as for males?

Pretty much. They take hair from a strip in the back of your head and put it where its needed.

I truly believe that submission doesn’t work well. I typically use micro silicone to improve scars.

Why consider a lip reduction or lip revision?

Samuel M. Lam, MD, FACS - Lam Facial Plastics | Oct 19, 2019
Sam Lam | Oct 19, 2019

Since I perform a lip reduction almost every other day I can say it is not a difficult procedure in my hands. A lip reduction can be done for two main categories: a lip that is too big naturally (commonly for "ethnic" lips but also for non-ethnic lips) and also for lips that are too big or misshapen from trauma or being overfilled from permanent fillers like fat, silicone, Bioplastique, Artefill, etc. Please visit my website for more information: https://www.lamfacialplastics.com/before-after-photos-dallas-tx/lip-reduction-corrective-and-ethnic/

What makes hair transplant look natural?

Samuel M. Lam, MD, FACS - Lam Facial Plastics | Oct 19, 2019
Sam Lam | Oct 19, 2019

There are so many factors to make a hair transplant appear natural. Many patients are focused just on whether there will be a scar on the back whether from a strip or from FUE harvesting. No doubt that is very important and I give a long description how I minimize that risk with either method. However, the key to a natural results is how the hairline is designed and how the recipient sites (where the grafts are placed) are made and angled by the surgeon. You cannot leave out the surgical team. Emina who is my lead assistant is a physician by training and has led and innovated so many methods on quality control for the past 25 years. If the surgeon makes the most beautiful pattern and design and the assistants mangles the grafts, inserts them backwards, puts the wrong grafts into the wrong sites, lets the grafts dry out, or places the grafts that don't fit perfectly into a site, the result will look absolutely terrible. There are SO MANY details that I could expound upon here.
