Great day for an hour and a half. A storm kicked up with high winds and rain. Highly recommend it though. The beach was clean and lots of rentals to enjoy on the lake.

Great place to walk around on a trail as my son and I enjoyed on a 70 deg day in November fall weather. Doesn't get much better than that.

Amazingly beautiful place! Nice campground with good size space between sites. The trails and beach are a bonus! We love it here and always catch fish! Fun to see the hot air balloons. Really nice that Indianola is so close. Went to Crouse Cafe. So delicious! Also the farmers market and grocery store. We'll be back!

Absolutely gorgeous. The restrooms were pretty clean for a park like this, but smelled a little mildewy. The showers got kind of dirty over the weekend with so many visitors (gorgeous May weather, who can resist?) and because of the mildew smell I decided against using the showers. But if you're prepared for that, the lake, scenery, and walking trails are great. Very relaxing. Listening to the birds and frogs in the morning was awesome.

Camping only permitted in the campground and specified sites
Lake Ahquabi campground is currently under renovation and will not be open for the for 2022 season. The campground is scheduled to reopen in 2023. Campers may camp up to 14 consecutive nights in a state park/recreation area. Campers must then vacate the park (including removing the camping unit) for a minimum of 3 nights before camping in that park again.
According to a 2020 survey the deepest part of Ahquabi was 20 ft deep. However with the current renovation these depths may change.
As of Jan 2022 I am not aware of any Iowa laws restricting drone usage in state parks.
The one by the beach is closed for winter. There's a latrine kind of near the boat ramp that was still open when I was there in October.
We were told that it would be closing in 2021 - that may be after the 'season' is over though - because we were also told it would be happening in 2 years (this was September 2020).
Yes. We had a family reunion there and were in a gorgeous shelter right by the beach and close to bathrooms.
It's also not very big or deep. So large boats wouldn't be much fun I wouldn't think
Reserve America. If you go to (Iowa department of natural resources lake ahquabi) their website, there will be a link to how to reserve stuff and that includes shelters and lodges
Yes several.
I do every year. Get like an extension cord, plug it in and bring it into your tent and use a power strip. I have a huge 10 man tent, use fans, CPAP machine, lights and phone chargers. Well worth the 5 extra bucks.
