What a gem! Spent a great day exploring this wonderful park with badlands and terrific scenery. Most interesting was the narrow coal veins. Nice visitor center; friendly and helpful rangers. Trails could use a little $$$ for maintenance; we are fit but older, and were nervous about falling. We did not stay in the campground, drove through it, looks a little sparse. So glad I found out about this park on line and stayed nearby to visit.

It was an unplanned detour due to unseasonable snow, rain and flooding at GNP. Here lies gorgeous scenery, unlike anything I've ever seen before (from the Midwest). The camp host kindly answered my phone call and gave instructions since we didn't have reservations - we ended up way up on the hilltop with one heck of a vista - after braving the steep road several times, but well worth it! We had a little time for hiking and nature center - both were worthwhile endeavors. I greatly enjoyed exploring the climatic changes and desert environment of the park. This is a treasure to behold. My pictures do not capture the capture the beauty & depth of this land.

We loved this park! It's easily accessible and not too big. The views are amazing and you can hike with your dog. The hikes are all fairly short which is our speed. We did the Cap Rock hike which goes down into the canyonand around and over the hoodoo. There is even a natural bridge photo-op. So much fun. There is a display at the visitor center that includes dinosaur fossils.

This state park looks like another world! The ranger in the visitors center was delightful and very helpful. There are plenty of restrooms throughout the park. There is a drinkable water fountain at the visitors center. Camping spots are available. There is a series of switchbacks which are closed and inclement weather. They were open when we were there. The drive through the park is absolutely beautiful! Make sure to grab a map at the visitor center. We went on a few hikes and they were all really fantastic. Our favorite was the cap rock pike which features a natural stone bridge. It is very steep and can be a bit slippery, so not for the faint apart. It is incredibly sunny with no tree coverage, so bring a hat and a ton of water.

Leashed pets are more than welcome! And plenty of opportunities to dispose of pet waste.
