If I could this place a 0 I would. I was in here when I was 10 and it was the worst place to go for a psych ward. They make you sit in a room all day and you watch tv. You don’t talk to anyone and when you do it’s for not even 10 minutes. It wasn’t the worst the staff was amazing but you did nothing at all. There was nothing to help you with your mental health, and you aren’t aloud to speak to you parents unless they call you. Honestly I don’t think any of the staff wanted to be there, they made us sit in a room together watch tv and we couldn’t do anything. I got sick in there and I sat in my room all day, which is understandable because they didn’t want anyone else to get sick someone only came in when they were giving me broth or my therapist in there. When we were in the moving watching tv and our backs hurt because it was uncomfortable we weren’t aloud to go to our rooms. When you first get there your asked a series of questions that a little kid shouldn’t be asked. They told me that I may have memory loss because I didn’t know what the date was I was 10 so no I wasnt going to be paying attention to what day it was. This place is not a place for kids it is like a prison with a tv. The food was okay but the breakfast was literal cardboard. The staff degraded you and put you down yes there were staff that were good but very few. I definitely don’t recommend this place if you want to get better. Id you take your child here they will leave with more problems then they went in with.

Staff during my stay were very unprofessional. Missed textbook benchmarks for abuse and other issues but still marked them down before sending me home to abusers as a minor. Very disappointed.

heartland helped me a ton. i was here for about five weeks last summer and i learned a lot. the staff were amazing. the food was really good. the groups were very helpful, especially horse therapy. there was some staff i didn’t like, but i didn’t have a real problem with them. some of my favorite staff that i think about everyday who helped me more than anyone else in this world will ever be able to were kyla, cody, amanda, maggie, jodanna, david, and esperanza. their hugs were amazing and they were really patient with me. we’ve tried a couple times for me to come back here to be on the residential unit, but they didn’t have beds open so we just decided for me to go somewhere else. the drive from where i live to heartland is four hours, but the drive is worth it. heartland helped me so incredibly much and i’m so thankful for what they do.

I’m surprised no one has talked about what I have to say in the reviews yet, guess they covered up their complete negligence well enough. I remember a few things from when I stayed here many years ago. One thing that stands out the most to me is the time an adolescent girl on their self harm unit DIED while under their care. From what I learned she was not supervised while utilizing a flat iron in the bathroom and subsequently hung herself in the shower. She did not die in the facility but instead died a few days later after she was taken off of life support by her family. Imagine sending your child here to make their life better and losing them forever due to something completely preventable. I was on a different unit than this young girl and remember the news being told to us in a group setting. I can’t imagine how this affected the kids who knew her and their treatment. They should’ve been shut down permanently!!!!! I know I would’ve pulled my kid out immediately if I had heard this news while my child was under their watch. 0/10 would not recommend.

Sure thing. They even supply some adult incontinence briefs. Incontinence is sometimes an issue for victims of certain types of abuse. They are sympathetic towards that.
No, you’ll have to take them out I know I did.

Look I’ve been there and really unless they are there long term they won’t get any treatment other than bad treatment. I was sent there short term and every single therapy group that was supposed to happen didn’t. I got sent a second time and there were TWO groups that happened in the 6 days I was there and they were the exact same group. By the way there are supposed to be like four groups a day. Unorganized. The way they treat patients is through medication and that’s about it. And when I said bad treatment I mean when I got there the kids were telling me I look like a dyke and a lesbian and a nurse heard and just said “yea I can see it”, There’s more that happened and I would be more than happy to talk to you about it, but please for the sake of the child take them to therapy first or for Christ sake a bible camp or something. no place for someone hurting.
Yes there are together
You get a 60 minute visit everyday and they can receive 2 10 minute phone calls a day. They also get to call home once a day. Currently have a child at heartland. It's a great place.
Acute care is up to 14 days. Residential stay is longer. Can be anywhere where from 2 weeks up to 1 year. Really just depends on the child and how well they do.
