I love this trail. It has over 250 miles of access to many towns and adventure. It makes me proud to be near by. In the summer the trees make a romantic tunnel. It never gets old.

A friend and I met at the Leeton Trail head and rode our horses west and back. More shade than I expected which was nice. Restrooms were very nice. Parking lot for large horse trailers was a little bit interesting to maneuver but a nearby attached lot helped us out. Cyclists were very nice.

I love the new rock island trail and I ride it 2 or three times a week from leeton to calhoun. I gave it 3 stars for a few obvious reasons and a few that aren't obvious to the occasional park attendee. 1. The one inch gravel in a few spots where the trail was repaired is way to rough. I can't wait for that to be fixed. 2. The Porta potties. I don't think that needs anymore explanation. 3. Lack of drinking water at the trail heads. I realize the addition is new so those changes are probably coming. Now for the not so obvious. 1. About 200 yards of the trail is being used by an atv right before you come to hwy13 from the east. They are cutting ruts in the trail by doing donuts just east of the highway. 2. At the leeton trail head a semi is hauling loads through the parking lot and over the handicap sidewalk. I watched him roll through 3 times this morning in about 20 minutes. There were a couple young boys on bikes in the parking lot along with my wife and I as we had just finished our ride and we're cooling down. The semi wasn't driving aggressively but the damage to the concrete handicap sidewalk and the park will be compounded by this activity as it was not built for regular semi traffic. With people moving vehicles and small children on bikes through the trail head daily I think it's unsafe for him to continue to be allowed to run his loads through the parking lot when there is an access road just to the south. I love this park and the opportunity it provides for families to get out and experience miles of nature and the outdoors in various activities. I realize that it is a work in progress. I just had a few points that I felt people might need to be aware of.
