While it is technically possible to layer one set of shingles on top of another, this may be setting you up for future issues. If your current shingles are curling, cracked, missing, or are covered with moss or algae, you will need to strip them to set up the new roof. Likewise if you already have two layers on your roof, they will have to come off to fit the new shingles.
Periodic visual self-inspections and yearly professional roof inspections are precious to a homeowner. As discussed, a small predicament can become a major problem if not addressed. Regular inspections allow you to make negligible repairs before they become larger projects, and before a small leak becomes a main leak or a mold problem.
