We love staying at Akeley campgrounds. They're well managed, clean, friendly and fun! We come back every year.

I have been a seasonal camper at Akeley City Campground since 2015. Rick and Kathy are the new managers this year. They have done some improvements to the campground, such as the road. But their people skills are extremely lacking. They are strictly enforcing the camper size limits for each site. This would be fine if the website had listed the size limits last year so people would know when booking for this year. On July 7th, my friends were told that they wouldn’t fit in a site because they had a larger camper than what was allowed for that site. They were able to get it straightened out, but you should be honoring the bookings that were made last year. Let people that booked last year camp like they planned and let them know when they check in that if they plan to come back, they need to book the proper size site. The rules for trailers in the campground changed halfway through the current season. I had my trailer at my camper multiple times this year. When I arrived on Wednesday, July 7th, I was informed that trailers are no longer allowed in the campground. You can’t even take them down to unload your ATV or supplies out of a boat. According to the rules, trailers should be parked up in the storage area. The rules do not say trailers are not allowed in the campground. I parked my trailer up top like I was asked. When I got ready to leave on Sunday, being a seasonal camper and used to bringing my trailer down to my site I forgot the new rule. I was caught by the new manager Rick and was told that “If I see the trailer on your site, I’m going to call the cops and charge you with trespassing. No trailers allowed in the campground. Get it through your thick f******* head.” I felt threatened and harassed. I did report this to the authorities. They are picking and choosing which rules to enforce. According to the rules, “Pets are welcome. They must ALWAYS be on a leash.” Rick and Kathy have a dog that is never on a leash. The bathrooms are only cleaned/checked once or twice a day. I have had to call several times to let them know that the toilet paper was out in one of the bathrooms. I noticed on Sunday, July 11th as I was leaving that the bathroom was out of toilet paper again. I would not recommend going to this campground with the current managers. If they get different managers I would recommend going. It is a beautiful campground right on the water, and close to the ATV trails. It’s beautiful to hear the loons out on the water.

What a gem!! Love that you walk into bathrooms and they smell fresh because they are so clean! The owners, Kathy and her husband are wonderful and have the place organized and inviting. Oh. I forgot to mention how beautiful the lake is! We will definitely stay here again when in the area.

We really enjoyed this campground and will be back! We have never camped so close to the lake and the hosts were BEYOND accommodating and sweet! We even had our own dock at lot 21. We would highly recommend camping here, especially if you're an ATV rider like we are. Hit the trails straight from the campsite. Very clean shower house too.
