We used to frequent this range but since they added the low roofline, it has been destroyed imo. Now you are forced to sit to fire down range instead of having the option to stand.

Great place to go shooting. Open from dawn til dark. There are 2 ranges pistol and rifle. Paper targets on both. You have to bring your own targets and eye protection. There's a camping area and boat launch. You can fish if you want to also but you have to have fishing license. Also there are plenty of picnic tables.

I was here for the purpose of camping. The campsites were actually really well kept. I camped in the middle. There was a family camped behind me that felt it appropriate to bring a generator for a disco ball, spot lights, and a karaoke machine. I wish there would have been a patrolling ranger because of that but over all its a nice mostly primitive campground. If you don't count the need for a wildlife license/permit... it's free!

Finally made it out the range with some family, glad I researched ahead of time. Prep before you go. Ensure you have a $2.50 hook and line license to have assurances any wildlife management won't pull you off the land, there's an Exxon station on the west side of the bridge who can issue you the needed permit. Consider bringing your own target stands. I visited on Jan 2. At most there were four target stands between both the rifle and pistol ranges. Ranges. Disappointed to see the rifle range has rafters. Rafters limit shooting stances to bench and below. I understand the necessity, public range=public idiots. Pistol range looks like it is well able to handle higher caliber weapons, it is posted nothing beyond .22 LR. Roads. My father-in-law and I made out OK in his Prius, pot hole ridden road dictates at least a car with some clearance. Experience. A great time! I'm familiar with range proceedings and interacted with other shooters and was able to go up/down range as necessary. Trash was getting close to overflowing and some more sweep up equipment would be nice. Overall a great experience! Some finer points could be addressed but a public range where responsible shooters can get after what they want and shoot how they want is an absolute joy and opportunity.

need a license issued by WMA any hunting or fishing license. But I was just there and ran into a game warden. I asked and he said legally you should have a hunting or fishing license to use the range but no one would ever ticket someone on the range for not having one.
Shooters are supposed to have valid hunting license to use range. Range is un-monitored by anyone.
It's a self clearing permit. http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/permit/self-clearing-permit
No you can shoot. They reiterate that to use the facility you have to have a hunting license. But its a shooting range so you can shoot. I love going to this range wish i lived closer
It's open regular hours
The rifle range goes out to 100yd, the pistol range out to 50.
Paper targets only.
