I brought a coin and I knew absolutely nothing about It and he easily could have given me $50 and sent me on my way, but he offered me a very reasonable amount and took on the risk of losing his investment himself. Yes, I appraise and buy coins. The buy price is what I pay and the appraised value is the retail value or what I expect to realize.
