I work here... Most people drive by and have no idea that these old bridge stanchions exist behind the sheriff sub station. There are 4 total and the trail tells the story through interpretive boards and visual aids on a short hike. Drive behind the sub station and park by the gate down by the woods. There is a picnic table and a few benches. If you need to use the restroom, stop off at one of the Santos locations before you make it to The Island... ...thats what we call this location ;) . Worth a quick stop to stretch your legs. The road is a little noisy.

This place is great for history buffs. It truly is an island between lanes of highway traffic. Go here if you are interested in the Cross Florida Canal.

Great walking trail with tons of interesting history along the way. I would not recommend this for small children as there are no activities to do and there are tons of mosquitoes and poison ivy plants around
