We went to buy peaches last year for the first time from Illinois, we liked it so much, we are going again this year, the kids loved picking and choosing their peaches.

No. They don’t charge anything unless you buy fruits after you pick. It’s free to just walk around and eat at the trees. The peaches are 1.75 per lb and the apples are 75 cents per lb If you decided to buy them . We just buy a bag of peaches about 12 dollars in the end. BTW they were sweet.
No, just the fruit on them.
Most early peach varieties are not as freestone as you would like but most of the mid and late season peach varieties are. Size is a function how long the peaches are on the tree. So, the later the peach variety picks the larger the average peach. The answer to both you questions is yes and August is when you can get both.
Cherries are ripe at the end of June and beginning of July.
