An updated interior, private screening rooms, plus a very friendly staff will greet you. New hours posted below. Walk-ins welcome but if you pre-register on their website or through their app, you can shave some time off your visit. (Pic of app below). The regular appointment takes about an hour. They also have a special machine which immediately separates red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. That appointment takes a bit longer but the donated blood is immediately usable whereas the traditional donation method needs to process the blood. Things I learned: Can you donate if you have diabetes? (Yes, even if you have Type 1). How about if you have had cancer? (Yes, but you need to have been cancer-free for a year but no Leukemia) Their machines can test for Covid antibodies.

After a multi-year history of donating blood at Vitalant 5-6 times each year, I will no longer support this organization. Last year at one of my donations, the staff improperly set up my donation, the result being a blood leakage causing a large and painful bruise that lasted for weeks. But worse than that was the "customer service" organization that ignored repeated requests for the results of the antibody tests done on my donation back in mid-December. The organization estimates two weeks for a result and apparently believes that even after doouble that time, they don't feel the need to respond to an inquiry on the status of those test results. For an organization that says it prides itself on serving its community and its donors, it might want to revisit what they means.

Nobody can pay for any human anything. Blood for human use has to be donated. The places that pay are usually for plasma or platelets that are going to be used to create medications or for research. Typically you can get $40 - $80 depending on your blood type and the place. What Vitalant does is give points for donations which you can trade for gift cards or orher swag.
You can get points for repeatedly donating that you redeem for things. But cash...no
I know about that place i waukegan I donate there already I'm just looking for somewhere closer to grayslake because my son is about to start school next week and I'm not going to be able to go out there.
Hello Susan, thank you for reaching out with your inquiry! Yes, you would be fine to donate right away as long as your vaccination is from one of the major manufacturers (Pfizer, Moderna, Astra Zeneca, Johnson & Johnson). If your vaccine is from another manufacturer then you must wait 14 days from when you were last vaccinated. - Christopher @ Vitalant
