Today I went to Petco in Hackensack New Jersey with members of my family. After I was finished shopping I spent a total of 146.55 in the store. After the purchase as I waited for my sister to finish her purchase as well. While standing with my items by the door with my dog and younger family members I noticed a sign with free plastic bags that stated it’s ok to take because mistakes happen. After reading the sign I reached for a couple of bags so I could walk the dog quickly before getting back into the car. This is when a Petco employee Collins approached me and asked if he could help me. My reply was yes, thinking he wanted to help me carry the gate to the car. But instead Mr. Collins proceeded to tell me that I can’t take any of the bags because they are for customers in the store. I was thrown back by this statement because I was a customer and I was standing in the store. The employee Mr. Collins quickly escalated the interaction by verbally stating that I was stealing. I felt this conversation was uncalled for lacking professional communication skills and truly offensive for no clear reason other then his internal prefabricated thoughts and feelings. Believing this to be a teachable moment I explained my that there is no monetary value on something that was already deemed free. So then Mr. Collins stated that he was done talking and then decided to verbally kick me out of the store after he could not soundly defend his initial complaint. Mr. Collins then threatened to call the cops multiple times. As if the threat of calling the police will stop an incident man from verbally protecting his name and reputation in public. Shame on you Petco
