Hospice Austin has caring nurses, doctors, and aides. Unfortunately, their administrative staff are atrocious. Their callous neglect and disregard threatened my wife's life. She has a feeding tube and feeding pump. The bags used by the pump are uncommon. I notified the nurse when my wife only had 2 weeks supply left. In the end, if I had not obtained the bags myself, my wife would have been unable to be fed for three to eight days. FOR SHAME! Despite the reply from the owner, I have received no communications from Hospice Austin after this incident other than the on-call administrator telling me, "You can always go to another hospice."

My family has been working with Hospice Austin for months now, my mom being the patient. There's been more than one thing that has not been good but the worst was right after my mom fell and broke her hip. Her condition was already awful (obviously) and this trauma from the fall made it worse. A social worker came and spoke with us before mom was discharged after a hellish week there where she was very close to death. We talked about everything we would need to get her home including someone to come and give her a bed bath. She said someone would come help within the next few days but no one came for TEN days. I tried to do it myself but couldn't get her very clean. Afterwards it seemed a struggle for them to be consistent. A few times we would wait all day and no one would show up or let us know why. And if I hadn't had asked the hospital for whatever materials they had to offer we wouldn't have had very basic things when she got home like hospital sheets, transfer mats, chucks, etc. Then the WORST thing that still upsets me and probably always will was how I BEGGED our nurse to please order an EXTENDED BED RAIL and we were offered EVERYTHING BUT that because it is considered "restrictive" and we would need a doctor's order (there IS a doctor there why was this some huge issue with all this red tape?!). So I asked for that but guess what? NO extended bed rail and she fell that very next week or so and BROKE HER COLLARBONE because no one would listen to me. I had to go and find a used one and we used money out of our pocket just to keep mom safe in her bed because she also has dementia and cannot understand why she can't just get out of bed. I will never forget this. My mother was actually put in more danger and suffered more pain because of this very important request being ignored even though I was clear about how serious it was. Everything BUT the thing that would've actually helped her was offered. We've also had issues with communication of supplies. We keep being told that we're getting our CNA in trouble for us ordering supplies because she is the only one who should do this. If things are getting too low or the wrong things are ordered then I take initiative and do this. Sorry, not sorry.

My mom has dementia and recently had a stay at St. David’s Round Rock where the social worker gave Hospice Austin my information to discuss services for my mother. This company has called and texted me numerous times trying to get my business. My complaint goes for the lack of compassion they exuded as Latasha called me to “follow up” about my dying mother on EASTER SUNDAY Morning. First, there was no follow up that needed to be had and second, especially on a holiday where no one wants to think about hospice and their loved one. That one phone call spun me into a sad downward depression. Furthermore, when I asked Latasha what she was thinking by calling me on Easter Sunday morning, her answer was “are we seriously going to argue about this?”. The lack of empathy, sympathy, and compassion was shocking. She yelled over my yells. Never once offered an apology and hung up on me. Just think, if they treat the family with this kind of behavior, how do they treat the actual patient? I will be contacting the owner of Hospice Austin so he can advice to better training.

Most caring and effective medical and social support. I cannot give the staff enough praise.
