Actually no, it is not. Ive had the worst experience with sponsors and members alike. If i dont get sober the way they got sober ill get drunk again so they say. Ive been given some of the worst advise by sponsors. I have sat in meetings listening to people talk about gettiing honest to watch them carry on affairs with married members of aa. Ive heard high and mighty statements of "I had to realize im not god" and watch the same blowhards put the finger on when a newcomer was going to relapse. No doubt there are some great and genuine people in aa but its alot easier to find a flake and a scumbag in an aa meeting

You might have had a bad experience. Newcomers are the lifeblood of AA and very welcome at every meeting I have attended since 1996.
