Take time to do the trail to the waterfall. It’s better to go counter clockwise. The waterfall will present itself to you better and it’s easier to climb stairs than descend stairs. The water fill station is located just past the dump station. The bathroom house near us did have running water. I expected just pit toilets. The only reason for the 4 star and not 5 is the unfriendly attitude of the gate ranger.

This is a small forested National Park campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are 2 tent/van loops and one RV loop. There are no hookups, but a dump station and RV fresh water station are available along with water spigots scattered throughout the campground. Bathrooms are available in each loop but no showers. There are no services nearby. If you want to camp in a mountain forest above 3000', this is the place.

First time camping there. Pulled up to the guard shake and spoke to the most wonderful ranger who explained its first come, first serve and how in her opinion there were much better sites still available than the one we reserved. After saying our preference, she circled several that she thought would be great for us and told us to go take a look and just let her know which one we take. The site itself was nestled back behind a couple of other sites, giving us the privacy we like. Because of predicted rains, very few other campers were there which gave us freedom to wander without intruding on anyone else's fun. I would definitely recommend this campground if nothing else then they have the BEST staff to help. :)

Great little campground with no hookups, but there is a dump site and water. It's pretty much covered with trees, so it's hard to get enough sun if you have solar panels. The trail head is accessible from the campground to this beautiful waterfall. The hike is a loop, about 2.5 miles but it will get a bit challenging at times. If you have hiking rods bring them for the hike, you'll be happy you did.. Internet wise, hardly any Verizon and some AT&T in the campground.

The gate is open 24/7 and you can self register there. The ranger left yesterday at 6PM.
The government can afford to maintain it. There is no political will to do so. Consider contacting your representatives and letting them know how you feel. This land is your land. This land is my land...
Crabtree is quiet compared to the other parkway campgrounds and often overlooked. Call Linville Falls parkway campground which gets a lot more traffic and they should be able to answer any questions for you. Since they keep a lot of the sites first come first served, It's possible the booth isn't manned at Crabtree until this weekend and even then it'll be banker's hours. There's a volunteer resident host to help you onsite generally, but they don't answer the NPS phone there. Crabtree is a pleasant experience, by no means just an overflow option for Linville and Black Mountain (USFS). It is a good choice if you want to visit Linville Falls, Linville Gorge, and Mount Mitchell from one location, but make sure you hike to Crabtree Falls while you're there
We can't a couple of weeks ago and there were ton of spaces available. It's not quite peak leaf season so I would think there would be availability. If the rangers booth is closed when you get there you can self-register. And then when it opens the next day you can just go up and give them your payment and information
Burnsville for ice, not really close. Firewood available at campground.
Google "crabtree falls campground reservation" and you should find a link to recreation.gov. There you will be able to find which days are open. Chances are that there may still be a few spots open.
When i went, I parked in visitor parking, and hiked to an area with a gate that was easy to hop.
We were there July 1 and it was not. We hiked the falls and it was a great hike at 9 am and no other cars in the pking lot
