It took me to get loud to finally get a meeting with the area director of Greenville. He said quoted, “we essentially get paid to find you a job”. With trust, I hoped he was correct. SCVRD is funded ,mostly, by ticket-to-work funds that they would lose if they actually did their job. So he lied! After 2.5 years of Nothing with Voc rehab, I looked into how their financed. These questions started my own investigation and hopefully will start yours, too. One how are they funded? Why is the board of directors of voc rehab over DDSN? What happened to the money at the end of the year? Why do they call disabled people on Social Security consumers? What is their involvement with Social Security and ticket to work? If a disabled person, like myself, gets a full-time job and no longer gets Social Security benefits what happens to The Ticket to Work funds they receive? Is it all a ploy? Is it a big loop? Are they really actually trying to find jobs for disabled people? Also, the counselor I was assigned to said two things to me. We don't want you to lose Social Security benefits. And we don't know your illness but you could get worse on the job. Those are discriminatory. The big issue is public perception, but when a taxpayers funded organization setup to help disabled South Carolinians work and get off SSI/SSDI promotes the opposite, giving the negative public perception moral authority, my dreams and others are stomped on. Otherwise, folks like me exist. Great, educated and experienced workaholics, treated like my physical disability sabotaged my intellect. This is my LIFE! I need help learning and growing to use my skills to help others, young and old, to grow and achieve what they can, not what they are told they can’t. By-the-way, P & A assigned to keep the disorganized organization, SCVRD, in check, is weak, spineless and completely useless!

Amelia is beyond awesome! She's a great person who is also patient with me. So thankful to voc rehab for covering new hearing aids! They've made a major impact on my life!
