Booked through hotel.com due to the lateness of the day and having to drive 20 miles to get there. The site said there was only one room left so wanted to be sure we’d have a room when we got there.The staff was very friendly but complaining about having to work at another super 8 and how many days she’d worked in a row. When we got to the room there was a very strong cigarette odor . I immediately went to the desk and requested a different room but was told they only had a suite left.She did make an effort and brought spray to the room which was minimally effective. It was basically then deodorizing spray mixed with cigarette. She told us they would give us a discount in the morning when we checked out. The guy at the desk in the morning told us that since we booked online he could not do anything about it. Called corporate and they also did nothing about it.

Such a nice hotel in a wonderful small town. This hotel gives the small town feel and is very nice. I would recommend staying here if you are traveling through northern Iowa!

The stay itself was fine. The room was clean and comfortable. But coordinating the stay was awful. My fiance and I booked a block for the weekend of our wedding, as well as a room for us for the night of the wedding, and every time we called the Super8 we got different information. The day before the wedding we were told there was no record of a reservation for us. The day after our wedding we were charged on two different credit cards, each for a two-night stay, even though we only stayed in one room for one night. We met with the manager upon checking out and she told us we would be refunded for the extra night we did not use. However, my card was still charged for two nights. When I called to ask about this, I received hesitation from the manager about refunding us the night we did stay there. I told her I was extremely dissatisfied because their communication had been very poor and I never made a reservation for two nights. She apologized but said there was nothing else she could do. For a small town hotel, I expected them to be a lot more organized and have more experience with wedding blocks. I will never book with this hotel again.
