Amazing food, wonderful service. The wait time to get a table wasn’t too bad either (approx. 20-30 minutes for a table of 5). No issues in calling for a waiter- our waiter came around every 5-ish minutes to ask how we were doing and refill our drinks. I ordered two pancakes, two slices of French toast, and a side of fruit. I think my food was around 10 dollars. The French toast had a lot of cinnamon. It was a bit too strong for my taste, but my sister liked it a lot. I loved the pancakes! They were a bit bigger than I was expecting (~6 inches wide), but what I didn’t eat, I put into a takeout box. They were thick, fluffy, and very sweet- everything you want when you want to divulge a little.

Food was and always has been pretty good-diner quality but consistent. Server was friendly enough. The “greeter” had zero personality. Multi colored hair. Asked our name and handed us the buzzer-not another word. When it went off we handed her back the buzzer-she pointed to her right (from her chair in the vestibule) and said sit there. No eye contact-nothing. The only words from the lady who cashed us out was “ are you leaving a tip on this”-had already left cash. Not did you enjoy your meal, thanks, come again, nothing. As we left the “greeter” was talking with another employee in the vestibule-not a word. We have always recommended this place but this has been our experience the last few times. Will go back to Locals. I know business is tough with increasing prices but all the more reason to make folks feel like you appreciate their business. Simple courtesies go a long way.

Short wait for good food! I had the Eggs Benedict and it was delicious. Very friendly attentive wait staff!

Every town needs a good greasy spoon and this one is Oak Island's. Nothing flashy, but everything they make is honest and darn good. The food is filling, the coffee cups full, and the chatter loud and friendly. Only complaint is some minimal parking and space inside; it's gets pretty crowded in the mornings.

What are the Covid safety practices like here?

You wear a mask in but just like every single restaurant you walk into, the masks come off to eat. Employees wear mask and the tables are cleaned between customers. The place is pretty busy and can get crowded. If you'd prefer more space and are more concerned or in a higher risk pool, just eat at home. It's still the safest way to avoid Covid.
