I believe that I visited on 10/4, as I’m visiting from Goose Creek, SC. I’ve have a membership for at least 20 years now, if not more when it was a very small building. I was greeted rather coldly as I approached the counter and introduced myself and handed my membership card. I was told to put on the blue tag that attaches to clothing and that I couldn’t bring my brief case inside that I had to lock it up along with my coat and hat. (I can understand theft but how can I use my genealogy research that I brought with me if it’s not aloud the the research area! I was also told that I needed an appointment to research…heck, I’m a paying member coming in from South Carolina! She said the next appointments would be at 1pm…really! I followed the rules and o did go back to the research area and spoke with the lady behind the desk. I explained who I was where I’m coming from and would like to research. It was around 12:45pm and I had to fill out paperwork. She was very friendly compared to the first encounter I had. I also wanted to donate a newer updated version of my family history and I had to fill out paperwork and hen I donated our families genealogy since I the that is already on file is old and outdated. There was only 3 people in the research room and now it’s 1pm. I got to go in. I was so taken back that I felt humiliated and only stayed for about 45 minutes. My membership card states (valid 12/13/2021 to 4/8/2023. Many Years ago this place was so nice to come to. I retired from the military in 1999, and I use to visit more prior to 1999. Since I live now in South Carolina, i don’t come up to Lancaster that much anymore. I’m real hesitant to rejoin once this membership expires. (See my membership card minus my number that I covered up). Maybe someone will reach out to me about this review. I didn’t feel welcomed whatsoever.

We went here to visit President Buchanan's home. Staff was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. Sadly being available isn't always the best solution (history does repeat itself). But it was interesting to learn about the first first lady. Nice grounds, a lot of Lancasters history and close to the city for a good lunch.
