Absolute space for the treasure trove in Jazz discovery: CD Vinyls or Video in New York City

I and three other eager patrons stood outside the entrance to the building today (August 25, 2022) at 5pm hoping to gain entry to the Jazz Record Center. No one answered the phone at the store, no one responded to the buzzes we repeatedly employed in an effort to get someone to lus let come up to visit the store. The security guard wouldn’t talk to us other than to growl “YOU CAN’T COME IN HERE!” We were all from out of town and had made the trip to West 26 St. in the hope that we could enjoy shopping at this wonderful jazz Mecca. Please leave some sort of notice when you will not be keeping normal store hours. To not do so is terribly rude to your loyal customers.

THIS PLACE IS A JAZZ LOVER’S DREAM. Extensive selection of jazz, even contemporary jazz / nu jazz — the records are well organised and decently priced. If you love jazz, you *will* find a record or 5 to take home with you. Will definitely be back!

SD have jazz influences, they love jazz. But none of their regular musicians, not one, are jazz musicians. Jeff Skunk Baxter, Jeff Porcaro, Bernard Purdie, Gary King, Paul Griffin, none, and Larry Coryell is not on any SD record. Shorter and Feldman appeared on SD records, but they are one off performances. All of SD's rhythms are rock rhythms, not jazz, not swing, the occasional shuffle, and one slow shuffle in Chain Lightning. Their music is more allied to 50s and 60s R&B ala Junior Parker or Ruth Brown. Some of their melodies and arrangements recall Duke Ellington. But Showbiz Kids, Reeling in the Years, Peg, Negative Girl, Two Against Nature, Black Friday, these are rock songs. Their records were on the Rock Chats, not the jazz charts. Rock Hall of Fame, Rock Grammies. And oh by the way, Pet Sounds is also rock music, though your girlfriend has a nice voice.
Very good!!
They seem to carry enough books that I believe you would find them. Worth a try.
Maybe. The store carries CDs. Visit and check.
It has a lot of material but if you reserved something, it may have been forgotten.
I believe your best bet is to visit the store in person.
