This is a unique facility for accessing the Appalachian Trail. Very friendly to the long-distance hikers, this is also a place where day-hikers can access an otherwise remote section of the trail. This includes a westward overlook of the Shenandoah Valley. Car access is via a very steep, single-lane gravel road. If you don't have 4WD, don't go during or after a rain, let alone a snowstorm.

I don't think there is any rooms. They have water and a place to recharge phones. The road in is long and rough.

This place was well worth the walk down from the AT, even though the cabin was closed with no caretaker when we camped there. Flat tent pads, a screened-in porch where we watched the sunset, water spigot... it was a very relaxing night's sleep! Very grateful for this place.

Nice it is available. Last few miles to get there, while starting as an unpaved VA road, becomes a really rough rutted private road that is one car wide with a couple of areas you can pull over to let a car going in the opposite direction pass by. Do NOT attempt this road with a low slung car. You can't get turned around until you get to the parking lot for the cabin. You need an SUV or preferrably a Jeep

No bear box that I saw, but there's hooks to hang on the porch and in the hiker cabin
Hi, Chuck here. Was just there in the beginning of April. Not a bad place to stay. the road going in is about 2 and a half miles in. We made it with a little Kia. But was not fun.
Front royal to keys gap is you best bet
