I used to eat here about once a month when I lived in the area, back in the early 2010s and the food was always great. My go-to dishes were Walnut Shrimp, Mandarin Chicken, Mongolian beef and the Chinese 5-Spice Wings (didn't see these specifically named on the menu during my last visit). I moved several hours away and couldn't stop in often but I loved the Walnut Shrimp so much that I needed to find the recipe. Luckily, I was able to find one on YouTube and it just happened to feature Chef Jack Ng from China City--flawless and delicious (PBS Chefs Walnut Shrimp, it's an Old video). Anyway, I stopped in around the 4th of July after not having been in 3-4 years. I was concerned with all the events and inflation going on over the past few years that the food might have suffered, but thankfully it didn't. I honestly think it might have gotten better since the last time I ate here and can't wait to go back again.

Really nice staff. The food is classic American Chinese, so I'm not sure what people complaining it's not authentic are on about-- of course it's not authentic Chinese, American Chinese is an entirely different cuisine specifically created decades ago for the American palette. If you want authentic Chinese you'd be at a Hunan or Szechuan specialized restaurant. Here there are the types of dishes you'd see at Panda, but a bit nicer in quality. Because this is American Chinese the dishes are indeed a bit bland although I find the cashew chicken is usually nicely flavored. American Chinese is not going to be spicy, although I'm sure they'd find chili if you wanted it. They're very accommodating to substitutions and allergies. The other plate I quite like is the walnut prawns although they're a little sweet, so I like to have them at the end as a dessert. The portions are usually quite large so know that each thing you order is a sharable plate for most people, if you want variety you might want to get a set meal or share a few items and expect left overs. Nice selection of cocktails, beer and wine. Plenty of space too with a big bar area with tables on one side then the other restaurant side with tables and booths that is child friendly. It's not my #1 on the island, and I much prefer some authentic Hunan food most days, but this is a family restaurant, intentionally serving American Chinese cuisine and doing a fine job of it, so I felt I needed to stick up for them a bit. Folks just need to understand what the restaurant is.

Shared a combo meal. It's was good but I definitely should have asked for spice. Good flavor, but if you like spicy you need to look/ask for it. They were very busy but the food came quick. Servers were great.

China City is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is marvelous and the wait staff are friendly and efficient. Salt & pepper chicken wings are great. Truly there isn't a bad thing on the menu.
