Oct 11, 2022. Update Mapleshade Animal Hospital deserves 10 Gold Stars. Dr Learman really enjoys her job and it shows In everything she does! Thank you for caring way you are! Enjoy lunch on me !!! WOW what a visit! My first experience was amazing – my second was down right awful! First visit today 8am I was surprised to find out I wasn’t seeing Dr Learman, but I understand sometimes there are fill-in doctors. I was greeting nicely for the Vet Tech. (her name slip me right now) She was kind and soft spoken. She took the vitals. Then we were introduced to Alexandria Murphy as the fill in doctor. She asked a few questions that I had just covered with our tech mins ago. No problem with that at all. She asks if Phoebe was still intact. I reply yes, she is. She then proceeded to tell me this must be taken care sooner than later. I share that I have not interested in having her alter in any way. Well, her tone changed, and she continue to tell me how bad it is to not have her fixed. Her exact words, “I will give you some information of that, however she needs this done!” - Next topic was heartworms – she needs to be tested for this as well. Her voice got louder and firm about this treatment needs to be done as well. Then the Bordetella needs to be done too! I do not have any plans to have her boarded for any reason, again she seems unhappy that I was not interested in having this done as well. Instead of asking me what my reasons might be, she continue to try to SHAME me as to why I was not interested in doing the services she recommended. NOW she Is finally examining my 18-month Chihuahua. Has she had a heat cycle. Yes, she has had two so far, last one in May 2022. Next her teeth look like she needs a dental cleaning as well. WOW! Everything but the kitchen sink is what my poor little 4lbs 14oz Chihuahua needs. Now if she was good doctor, she would find out more about me and my pets. Since I was seen on time @ 8am I give them five stars! I have three Chihuahua’s two long hair Chi’s and one smooth hair. I’ve own over 7 dogs in my life so far. My one pet Yorkie had a bad reaction to her vaccine, and we almost lost her by giving the Bordetella, which at that time, I was told hold off in giving small toy animals Bordetella unless then plan to be around other dogs, dog parks, so on. – so instead asking why I was “SHAMED” by Alexandria Murphy. When I was checking out, I asked does Alexandria Murphy work at another office, or an office of her own? The receptionist had no information on this doctor, she just said, we have doctors to come in and help out Dr. Learman My three Chihuahua are litter boxed trained, so truly they are indoor dogs. Which I plan to change to going outside in general. My frustration is truly how I was spoken too and the manner that she felt she needed me to understand her point of view. I decided to write this review when I was calm, so I waited until this evening. What I do want to point out is in her “information and notes” from this visit she wrote this in CAPITALIZE with frustrating to me not co-signing to her recommendation. Now I work in health care, and when we recommend patients to have fluoride after their dental cleaning we do not “SHAME” if the elect to have not have that service. We merely give a suggestion. I requested that it’s noted on my account heartworm or anything I will decline. Truly our pets mean a lot to us in general, but it seems like we did not hit it off from the start. I will do whatever I need to do for my pets’ they are my world. Overall, I am hoping this was an isolated visit and that my next visit goes as smoothly as the first visit.

They truly care about the pet, and owner. Wouldn't take my boxers anyplace else!

The staff are so caring. Great experience for both myself and my pet.

Dr. Learman is hands down the one of the very best veterinary doctors there is. As a military family who had to frequently change veterinary doctors with each relocation which means I’ve had a lot to compare too. All the veterinarians I’ve had have been great; I do a lot of research and vetting before selecting a who we select for the care of our pups. Yet, Mapleshade stands out as the best. That said, there was a time a few years ago, I was undergoing an immense amount of stress and life demands, totally on me, had a mis-understanding with the staff and wrote a negative review. Dr. Learman reached out to me personally to ask about what had happened, we talked through the entire thing— not many veterinary doctors or offices will do that. Even though it was my being in error she gladly and compassionately continued to care for our pups and me. Today, I was again reminded of how exceptional, caring, and professional Dr. Learman is. She had cared for our pups since 2015 and I will forever appreciate the level of care, knowledge, expertise, and professionalism. Thank you.
