I finished my 3 week basic training cycle this month. It was a very exciting experience. The 3 week period definitely does give you a sense of Wing Chun conditioning and forms. To me, it helped me understand how much more I can push my body while working out even when you feel that's the best you can do. This is definitely something that I can use forever in my fitness goals. I recommend anybody looking for starting training Wing Chun to try out the basic training and make a decision for yourself.

Highly recommend Wing Chun MD. I recently re-took the 3 week intro classes, which I had done 4 years ago (but couldn't commit to the full membership at the time), and it's still just as impactful as I had remembered it. In an era with so much chaos and uncertainty, I've always left a session with so much peace of mind. Wing Chun pushes you, not for "gains," not for resilience for resilience sake, not so you can take a video of yourself with an inspirational quote to impress your friends. It pushes to reveal what you're truly capable of, past your own mental blockages (some you might not even know was there). Sifu has SO much experience. If you let go of your need to control and trust his guidance, you will understand how every exercise has a purpose, and gain so much confidence in your progress. Regardless, if you continue with the membership, you will learn a lot about yourself in just the 3-week progress, and that insight is invaluable.

I am a new member of Wing Chun MD and just completed the 3-week introductory boot camp. Every class has been great. Some classes were so physically demanding (in a good way) that I felt it for days and some classes were so mentally demanding (in a good way) that I'm still thinking about them. Sifu Michael Speights is an excellent teacher with real-world know-how to which his Wing Chun Kung Fu is applied. The students at Wing Chun MD are a good and diverse group of people (different ages, genders, athletic ability, etc.); everyone I worked out with committed to improve in the limited time we've been there so far. We all learned skills and performed feats none of us believed we could do before we proved to ourselves we could. I can't wait to learn more.

Highly recommend Wing Chun MD for anyone looking to try something new or practice serious martial arts training. I just finished the 3-week training for new people. As many others have said, SiFu Michael is the real deal. His teacher was trained by the now-famous Ip Man and teaching Wing Chun (a style of Kung Fu) is his passion. He is dedicated to preserving and teaching wing chun and does so in a way I think is culturally respectful and with a lot of integrity. Perhaps more importantly, he is dedicated to his students becoming better people and practicing kung fu, which classically refers to the dedication of patience and hard work towards mastering a skill. He will push you hard but never does so in a way I think is shaming. Regardless of how much martial arts experience you have, everyone new to Wing Chun MD must take a 3-week training class which costs $87 for three 90-minute sessions per week. After the 3 weeks, you have the option to continue on as a monthly member for $150/month. The 3-week class is a combination of body conditioning, martial arts fundamentals, punching and kicking drills, and learning a wing chun form (a choreographed set of moves that gives you a sense of some of the fundamental concepts and moves that are the basis of wing chun.) The class is offered roughly every two months so you need to check the website to see when the next available time is. There’s a memorable moment about halfway through the training where SiFu Mike asks us to hold a position that seems physically torturous and impossible. I could barely hold it for half a second and it was so painful I wanted to cry. He gave a super motivational speech about deciding to bear the hard things in order to grow and prepare ourselves for life’s inherent challenges. After that speech, I could hold the position for 10 seconds. The next day, 20 seconds, and a week later, a full minute. For me, it was definitely a lesson in how terrified our minds and bodies are of pain and uncertainty, and how things are often not as bad as they initially seem if one has the resolve. For some people, that class alone could make the whole experience worthwhile. Give it a try! At the very least, you’ll be in better physical shape after 3 weeks and you’ll have the pride of seeing what’s possible when you push your body beyond imagined limits.

Questions & Answers

As a Senior,Wing Chun seems to be the best Martial Art to get into? Would you agree? Do you have Seniors in your School?

Wing chun is good for seniors (because we assume we are slower, weaker, smaller than an opponent and use technique rather than skill) Wing chun md is accessible to adults, and there is also a teen class. There are several students who are about 50 but most students are younger. I recommend you contact Sifu and arrange to visit.
