In some cases, yes. Virginia has an expungement law that allows people to remove arrest records if they are tried and found not guilty. You can also expunge arrest records if the state chooses to drop the case. Expungements are for people who are charged and are actually not guilty. You cannot expunge a charge if a court found there was sufficient evidence to find you guilty, but then dismissed the case after a period of time in which you completed tasks like community service, drug or alcohol treatment, anger management, or any other condition.
Hire a good lawyer who is confident about your case and has a good game plan to win a trial. Facing a criminal charge is a daunting task and even if you are innocent you cannot go it alone. You would be against a seasoned prosecutor who would be able to exploit your lack of knowledge of the rules of court.
