Lovely and relaxing walk through the woods in the middle of the city. We see 8-20 deer and 4-5 pileated woodpeckers each time we come. Picnic area, plenty of parking, large field for sports or dogs to run. No restrooms or playground.

We were looking for a short, pleasant afternoon walk - and this little park was just the right spot. It winds along a neighborhood backyards, and paved the whole way. Parts are boardwalk, going over some wetland areas. Easy, charming, not difficult, but also not very interesting. The park is named after an extremely interesting leader and explorer - his story is posted at the entrance. Worth reading.

Suggestion, Not a question. 12326 Dewey Rd is a great parking spot and or starting point for both Matthew Henson State Park and Rock Creek Trail.
