After Emanuel moved to Grand Park in 1980 the old sanctuary on 2221 Forest Street was purchased by King Solomon United Baptist Church and was used as its main sanctuary until ~ 2000 when they built a new campus across the street. The old church has sat abandoned since. My guess is that there is too much asbestos in the old building to risk tearing it down. I'd refer you to King Solomon as to what plans they have for the property, if any.
