Lazy, staff. Too many breaks. Supposed to be “Assisted” living. My parent has to beg for assistance. Temperature in room run way too hot and very cold. Bad place. If you are looking for a place for dad or mom, look somewhere else.

After living in the home in Westover Hills that her father built for the past 43 years, our mother referred to The Lorelton as “my home” for the past 2-3 years until her recent death at age 99. With large windows, lots of light and her own furnishings, it really did feel like home for her. The staff there were consistently helpful, friendly and welcoming during her entire stay. Mom enjoyed being able to sit outside in the enclosed courtyard to get some fresh air among flowers in a well tended garden. She particularly liked the long halls (it is a converted school) so that she could use her walker and get exercise safely, as well as during her regular physical therapy sessions which she also enjoyed. I was always impressed by the cleanliness of the facility and friendliness of both staff and residents. During this past summer, after two strokes, the staff went above and beyond to not only be supportive of her, but also of the rest of our family. Though we miss her already, we feel comforted that she spent her final years being well cared for by The Lorelton staff, as well as being loved by her family.

My mother lived 7 years.at this facility. In the beginning everything was fine. However, over the years prior to her passing, I had to demand her room be repaired and painted. Her fees increased to 1500.00 more each month than the initial entrance monthly fees . The facility called it custom care cost, which always varied from month to month. The office manger was very unprofessional and had poor billing procedures.I believe my experience at the facility was based on race discrimination.

On the assisted living side of the building we currently reserve medicaid for our own residents after spend down. In the memory care portion of the building we do not have medicaid certified beds. Sadly, none of the facilities in New Castle County do. If the money runs out we help find a nice skilled facility with a locked memory wing and assist with transitioning the resident to their care. That being said, our rates are in many cases reasonable enough (in a shared studio) that we never need to go that route as many can afford us with just their social security, pension and sometimes VA benefit.
There is a Veterans benefit that some may be able to qualify for to help pay for assisted living. The Community Relations Director at The Lorelton can explain more over the phone or during your scheduled visit, but the amount of help could be over $1000 per month!
Hi Pope, we are an assisted living caring for seniors over the age of 62, I don't think we're quite what you're looking for, but best of luck with your search!
Turnaround time for admission is going to be at least 48 hours because of the TB testing requirement in Delaware. If your primary care doctor can get the paperwork back to us fully completed and in a timely fashion, we can accommodate a move in within a few days.
The Lorelton Chefs work with licensed nutritionists to plan and prepare well balanced, delicious & nutritious meals each and every day. We have an array of menu items to choose from for each seating including daily soup and entree specials. We also can accommodate all of your dietary restrictions, no matter what they may be and the best part of the dining program is the price. Every resident at The Lorelton gets a free meal each and every day and you can literally eat all three meals for $10 bucks a day. We also have brunch every Sunday and serve Hors d'oeuvres with Happy Hour twice a week!
