I am always so happy to receive the help and guidance from everyone at this organization. They care about you and want what’s best for you. This is the organization that I will personally use any year that I am teaching.

Avoid if possible. I have been a member for 2 years so I have quite a bit of experience in terms of speaking about this. They're not too bad answering basic questions regarding state policies about absences, contract renewal, what admin can and can not do, etc. however if you have more complicated issues and get stuck with admin that's out there to get you, then you're on your own. I was never asked how I was feeling or how things were going, even after I consistently contacted UEA's rep for a good month about what was going on. It started to feel like a chore for someone to respond to me. I realize these organizations have no power in a right to work state, but my goodness, the least they can do is check up on me now and then. Alas, no one did, not the regional manager, nor anyone else! To make matters worse, in one phone call I was told by one of their reps (upon describing my issues) that they would "pray" for me, which made me chuckle. What is hope and prayer going to do to solve the issues I'm dealing with? Is that what our membership fees have been going towards, so educators can have their issues resolved by "hope and prayers" ? Unsurprisingly, I will never go back to these people again, and will make sure to inform my fellow educators to stay away.

I am very grateful for the help that I received from UEA. They responded my questions in a timely manner. Every time I spoke to someone they were polite, understanding and encouraging. I want to particularly thank Derik Hayenga for his help and service. I was living a nightmare with my school and he helped ease the process. Thank you kindly!

Questions & Answers

What is the rule for lesson plans ? Can a district require in depth lesson plans that will take (honestly) hours to write ?

Mr. Lambert, This is a difficult question to answer without knowing more details about the specific situation and your district. If you are a UEA member, please call our office at 817-572-1082 and one of our associates will be more than happy to help. Thank you.

When is the last day I can submit my resignation for the 2018-2019 school year?

You can resign penalty free as long as you submit your resignation in writing at least 45 calendar days prior to the first day of instruction for the 2018-19 school year, even if you already signed a contract.

My AP is my appraiser and she had her daughter transferred into my class. Can I ask that she NOT be my appraiser?

I think your AP already broke the law. I suggest sending a certified mail letter to your campus principal. But if you have a reasonable fear of retaliation, then call state employment office and aclu.
