Great for the scouts, just a bit rustic for this old man

We have gone to Camp Fleischmann for 5 years now, sometimes twice in a season. It is a rustic Scouts BSA camp used for family camp for Cubs, for adult training such as Wood Badge and for Scouts BSA Camp. It is a big camp and as I say, uphill in both directions. The scenery is beautiful. Most of the camp sites are fairly flat. there is a large fire bowl with low-to-the-ground log seating. The dining hall is open aired with a roof and extra seating outside. There is a marvelous fireplace. There is an AWESOME open air chapel. During the summer season most of the camp is staffed by older youth-sometimes needing a bit more experience but Cub Scouts seem to have tons of fun and expert staff is not their concern. Older Scouts may be looking for some more expert instruction. Some of the learning stations are staffed by adults and the waterfront has qualified folks. The camp store has changed over the years and now it is quite small. I hope they manage when summer 2019 fully is in swing needing to supply tons of merit badge kits and such. Staff works hard to maintain the camp but it does remain rustic and there is only tent camping. The food in the dining hall depends on the staff. I have had GREAT youth prepared meals, so-so professional meals and visa-versa. There is always enough variety to please everyone including the pickiest eaters. There is always salad, PB&J, cereal and such. You won't starve. Coffee is usually available. Porta potties (affectionately called KYBOs) are placed near camping areas. Showers are group style with minimal if no privacy (it is a camp) so heads up. Times are posted for men, women, youth boys, youth girls and staff men and women. Some folks may have to shower at odd times or you can bring lots of wipes and foamy body/hair cleaner. It is DUSTY. There are lots of bugs which bother some and not others. It usually rains at least one day per week, occasionally more. We are about to attend as "Boy Scouts" (Scouts BSA) so we will see how that goes with earning merit badges. Your kids will get worn out but so will you. It is not very handicapped friendly though I've seen one youth over the years attend as his dad pushes him around (and up and down) camp. Depending on what the Forest Service allows, camp site fires may be allowed (or nor) using wood gathered from the ground only. There are AWESOME climbing walls. There is a great RIDGE for the mountain men and Scouts with that inclination along with Native dancing. Go have some fun!!

Great camp and it's getting better. They have a kitchen crew for better meals now. They also started an ATV program. Camp is improving.

I love the values of Boy Scouting. They are alive and well. Fleischmann is a beautiful camp with fun, well run, safe programs

No it is not, the boy scouts lease the property from the forest service. However just up the road is Juniper lake with gorgeous sites and a wonderful lake.
