This answer all depends on the durability you are looking for in your flooring system. It is possible for the average residential DIY person to only need a single coat of epoxy on their garage floor to get much of the benefits of the product. These benefits would include oil resistance, stain resistance, easy clean up etc. With that being said you will most likely want to at least add a polyurethane topcoat onto the floor to get the absolute best scratch resistance possible. A really thick coat of epoxy on the garage floor will do a great job of resisting stains and oil, but it will still be susceptible scratching. Adding a coat of polyurethane on top of the epoxy will give the garage floor an even higher resistance to stains and oil, while also adding scratch resistance at the same time. The answer to will epoxy stick to wood, in short, is yes. A properly prepped wooden surface should have no problem adhering to a high quality epoxy material. Although you may want to make sure that the wood that you are trying to stick the epoxy to is dry and free of moisture or loose splinters.

The best epoxy for garage floors that Epoxy Werx has found, would be own our brand of epoxy. We use only 100% solids epoxy flooring material. What this means is that our epoxy flooring material doesn't shrink or evaporate as it cures. The epoxy that you typically get from the big box stores is only 50% solids. So when the epoxy flooring fully cures, only half of what was installed on the floor actually remains, the rest evaporates. Most of the epoxy flooring products sold at the big box stores are water based products. We have found that these products are typically very weak and flake and chip after a short period of time. Our products are oil-based and designed for very heavy traffic, which is why were are able to offer such a great warranty.
