Nice shaded campground not too far from the Timber gap trailhead. Drive in is technical and you should use lower gears if possible.

These are NOT first come first serve anymore in the summer. (Not sure if that's year round) There is a sign at the beginning of Mineral Kind Rd stating such. Don't be like us and end up having to find other accommodations.

Outstanding. Tent only, there's no generators, very quiet. Camp for allowed due to altitude. Cool in middle of summer... Now, about the road, if you're not one for mountain roads, skip it.

The Mineral King Hwy has over 400 curves and some places are only one lane wide. Doable in an RV but Atwell Mill is not a level RV campground. Cold Springs Campground is further up, near the MK Valley and has a couple spots that can handle an RV. Dogs are not allowed on ANY trails and must be leashed at all times. Dogs tend to bark so you'd not have much chance of observing deer browsing, or grouse. It's also bear country and all food and anything scented must be secured in the bear box. This is so they don't become problem bears. Recommend wearing a whistle so you can scare 'em off, in addition to your dogs. Actually, leave the dogs home. They won't have fun. You can't leave them tied in your campsite or locked in the RV without an adult present at all times.
All sites are first come first serve. If you go beginning or mid week you should have no problems getting a spot.
It's open until Oct. 31st https://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/atwell.htm
