What a fascinating place New Melleray Abbey is, truly a moving visit. I will be coming back and hope to spend more time. If you’re in the gift shop and want to buy something and thinking someone will help you to check out you’ll be staying overnight. Ha ha. I looked around and saw a sign that it’s self checkout. They have easy directions for you to follow.

I recall a nice visit to this abbey many years ago. It was during the summer and it was very hot outside. I attended some of the times the monks prayed and lingered around the abbey. One thing I became aware of was this abbey's caskets which they make for sale. And afterwards I knew a few who purchased them for burial. The caskets are lovingly made and have beautiful simplicity. I interacted with only a monk or two in the guest house reception area. I am glad I visited here and I recommend visiting.

We went for vespers and it was beautiful. Very peaceful and Serene. They have a wonderful little gift shop and the Abbey itself is spectacular.

They give tours at 10 and 2 when the workers are on break.

It has been a while since I stayed at New Melleray, I believe they do have some handicap accessible rooms. I would first suggest you contact New Melleray itself before making the trip. Although the drive is usually very scenic. I have always enjoyed my visits and stays at New Melleray, it is a step back in time and definitely worth it. Enjoy !!
