I went here after a mental emergency and let me tell you it made me worse if anything. The staff was very inconsistent, all we did all day was sit around and watch tv and color. The therapy sessions were not helpful or constructive. And the psychiatrist, Sarah, literally contacted and told my parents she had met with me and had a great talk, I hadn’t even met her. We weren’t allowed to converse with other wards, we got in trouble if we even waved at them. We weren’t allowed any physical contact like hugs even if you were crying not even from the staff. We weren’t allowed to go outside at all even though they had gated off sections, and we barely had windows. We keep our doors open at night, but they leave the very bright hallway light on so I could never fall asleep. One morning had had an upset stomach from my meds change, and I started to throw up, the staff did nothing but watch me, no one brought me a bag or anything to throw up in. Basically all around a very horrible experience, as my parents were picking me up I mentioned to the lady checking us out, who works there, that the staff there was very inconsistent, she just said “Ya it really is.” They told us we would meet with our therapists and psychiatrists several times, and I can’t say I saw either of them more than twice in the seven days I was there. They also are constantly going against HIPAA protocol. They also gave me medication that made me super sensitive to light extremely sluggish and tired all the time, they had me taking this medication that was meant to be taken at night in the morning. Also while meeting with my psychiatrist once out of the two times, he literally interrupted me mid sentence while I was answering his question, and then proceeded to give me nicknames and talk about totally unrelated stuff to my meds or mental health and made me feel very uncomfortable. They claimed multiple times to my parents to have been meeting up with me often and every day, which was a total lie. They gave us all countless pills daily morning and night and didn’t tell us what they were for, I felt constantly tired and numb because of the meds. They make you stay here for at least seven days, and make it almost impossible to get you out after that point, my parents had to press and make so many emails and phone calls to finally get me out of there. Do not bring your loved ones here in a mental dilemma, honestly any other mental/ behavioral hospital would be better than this one.

The nurses are absolutely amazing! I felt completely safe and comfortable there! I’ll never go back because of how much help they were and what they did for me! Love them all and I miss them much!

My daughter was struggling with prescription medication and alcohol. She was there for I think 4 weeks. And now she has been sober for over 4 years. Thank you for all of your help with my little girl.

Questions & Answers

Are phones allowed on unit as a patient?

Liam Becerra | Oct 10, 2020
Andy Shawda | Oct 10, 2021

Cell phones are not allowed on the unit. Try to write down any numbers you may want to call before going in. There are phones that may be used on the units. Phone times are usually scheduled in order to optimize therapeutic times. Staff try to be understanding and help with making calls when needed outside of those times.

How is this place to go to so you can detox? What is the process

Heather Hulse | Oct 11, 2018

Terrible. They were supposed to detox me so I could go to rehab. They kept me on the medication the rehab wouldn't allow. So the rehab wouldn't accept me, and the hospital wouldn't take me back until I paid my bill.

Do you treat older adults separately

From adolescents? Yes. But they have people suffering from severe psychological problems and people with drug problems together.
