Beware !!!!! I bought a Penn Slammer III Spinning Reel - Model SLAIII6500 from bass pro in 8-2020. Fished with it maybe seven times and that is being pretty generous. I was reeling it in and the handle broke (Two witnesses on the boat). If there would have been a fish on it would have been lost. after contacting basspro they said their warranty is for 60 days and referred me to the penn fishing site. I contacted them and they emailed me a return sheet. I sent the product on April 6th ,so I called the same customer service person answered could tell by the pleasant voice. They said the reel arrived on May 6th, so a month later? Cost me $26 for ups., also it was full of 30lb braid line. They said it would be another 6 weeks before they look at it they are behind. Do they have that many returns? The next thing I look for, is them trying to charge repair for there slack in quality. I always keep about 3 different size rod and reels with me when I go fishing. Well I am off to buy another reel and you can bet, IT WANT BE A PENN REEL EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! Cost of reel $295.00 Cost to ship it back $26 Cost of line $35. all lost to penn. I gave them 2 stars because they do answer the phone and explain when I called Twice. Ok fixed they fixed the problem

I have used penn reels since for a long time. I am now a fishing charter guide and take numerous people out fishing. I purchased 4 spin fisher V’s and 3 penn international to start my charter business with new gear “that would last a long time.” Little did I know the quietly and customer service of this company has completely changed. 1 of the spin fisher V’s - 6500 was hard to Spool line on the real because it had bad bearings I assume from factory. I never ended up using it because I was afraid to have a customer hook a fishing and struggle so hard to reel it in because of the bearing and loose the fish so I decided to keep it in the box. The other 6500 was used 1 time got splashed some from the rough seas on the boat- 3ft waves. The next time I used the reel, it was just as hard as the first one to reel in. I opened it up after using it 1 time and found it was because the factory crushed the washer that keeps it water tight. salt water ended up sitting in it and salt collected and made it very hard to reel almost like grinding. So 2/4 brand new spin fisher v’s where messed up from factory. I called to have a warranty replacement or repair during COVID, and they said they would call me back to have them replaced... I waited and waited and then called back at least 15 times was hung up on a couple of times and waited a total of 12 hours to have the problem resolved. And now I am being told to send them back and pay for a repair or replacement because it is out of warranty. I can not believe the customer service is so horrible. I wouldn’t wish the struggle I have gone threw to get these ”brand new” reels replaced on anyone..... As a charter boat captain I fish for a living. I recommend tones of local customers and the community to equipment I use and I would never recommend a penn reel to anyone because of the customer service and the way they treat people along with the reels from factory that didn’t work and they would replace. If they ever “find my number” to resolve this issue they might get this review slightly changed. Buy Shimano!
