PHL is a fantastic place to get in great shape. We train for everyday functional fitness, CrossFit competitions, triathlons, running, and Olympic lifting. I typically do their CrossFit / strength and conditioning workouts. I also use their boot camp classes when I feel I need that style work. I swim sometimes at the pool on 8th n Reed as well. The people are always friendly. The owners are the best. The coaches are always prepared and ready to help. You can’t go wrong joining the PHL family!

I wouldn't recommend this gym if you are African American the culture of this gym is NOT welcoming. The 1st instructor for the 1st class ignored me most of the time, but in his defense he also stood around not interacting with any other student for the majority of the class. The other students were all regulars and experienced so I wasn't sure if perhaps I came on an off night or what and we had a pleasant conversation AFTER the class concluded. So I decided to give the gym another chance. During my 2nd class with the 2nd instructor, about 10 seconds before the class was about to start, the 2nd Instructor said to me "Are you okay" that was the only thing he said to me during the entire class. To figure out what was going to happen, I spoke to the other students in the class who were again regulars and experienced. If I hadn't then I wouldn't have known what to do (i.e., grab some weights, go to a station, grab a box for your station) until 10 seconds before the series was to begin--I know the seconds because the instructor started the countdown clock). There was plenty of time before the clock started for the Instructor to speak to me, he simply decided to ignore my presence. The final straw came during the 3rd class with the 2nd instructor when 30 minutes into the class the instructor still had not spoken to me. He only spoke to me after I abandoned my attempt to work out--I left the rack, walked to the locker space, dressed in my jacket, hat, gloves, etc. and turned to walk out. Then, he finally approached me and wanted to talk. During our discussion he told me that he thought I looked okay. This class was supposed to be a partner class and I didn't have a partner (but I guess I looked okay), I didn't know you were supposed to warm up on your own doing the warm up on the white board (the last class was not like that) so I stood around thinking the class hadn't started yet (but I guess I looked okay), after warm up he said to the entire class that it was a partner class (I didn't have a partner but I guess I looked okay) and that you were supposed to choose a weight based on your progress over some previous classes (he had been my instructor twice so he was well aware I was new, but I guess I looked okay), I stood around at the rack not doing anything for 20 minutes waiting for him to approach me and offer some guidance (but I guess I looked okay). He spent his time (before I walked out after 20 minutes into the workout) helping the other newbie (who was not African American) and providing guidance to the other experienced students that had injuries who also were not African American. Again, this is not a safe or welcoming space for non-white attendees.

Great coaches and challenging workouts. I haven't worked out this hard in a CrossFit class in years. Within just two weeks I already see my body changing with positive gains!
