Beautiful place to spend a few hours at. Great trails and scenery that's only a short drive away. I look forward to stopping back in again when the leaves start turning colors.

Yes, the park is open, however, some weather conditions can affect the multi-use trails, so either call or check their website for updates on those.
Little light and yes they have Lodging and camping
They're always open I think. Hike at your own risk but don't ruin the trails if they are muddy! When they're too muddy for us we walk the streets! It's still pretty long and beautiful!
Go to the Iowa DNR website. There is no water at the lodge after October 30th and no heat except the fireplace. Also the road to the lodge closes with the first snowfall, so it cannot be used after that.
The roads through the park typically open once there are no chances of snow in the forecast. This year we will be waiting until the freeze-thaw ends as it has caused a sheet of ice to form on the road.
It's really just a pond. There's no swimming or anything like that. At one time it was used by the Boy Scouts, but that was 40 years ago. There's a road just after you enter the park. Turn left, then turn right at the fork. Park where the road ends and start walking. You'll come to a trail that leads to Turtle Lake.
No it's not cuz about mid November they close the park up 4 the season unless it snows & is cold earlier then that & so then they turn off all the water close down the bathroom & shower houses as well :( it's sad but good 4 the animals lol
There is in river right in front of it but I'm sure pond may have some
There's a maximum stay of 14 continuous days, so, no, please don't. You can ask the post office to put a hold on your mail, if you'd like. Thank you!
We do have fishing available at Turtle Lake in the park for bass, catfish and bluegill. There is also excellent fishing for many species available on the Big Sioux River and Missouri River, which border the park. The rivers are well-known for world-class catfish. Thanks!
The nearest public shooting range is in Oyens - we'd suggest going there. Thank you!
There is a lake though it is VERY weedy. Not much of a fishing spot. I'd take a pass on it.
It's primarily a day use park. No camping. Though they have 2 cabins that you can rent by the night. Maybe $60/night. They lock the gates at 10pm, no one goes in or out after that. UPDATE: A thousand pardons! I was wrong and my wife graciously it out to me. There is a small area of about 30 campsites tucked out of the way on a side road. Rates run $11 - $16 per night. Cheaper ones must be walked to, while higher ones have drivable access. And those 2 cabins I mentioned... $35/night.
It says on Google maps that it is open 4am to 10:30 pm. The nature center hours are: Tues. - Saturday, 9a.m.-4:30 p.m., Sunday, 1-4:30 p.m. Closed Mondays and Holidays.
Nearest mountain lion I ever saw/heard was in the woods behind Western Iowa Tech. It was dark as heck, but I think what I saw was a female mountain lion. Either that or maybe a male. It was definitely a really big cat and growled rather intimidatingly. I was already running through those woods and was in pretty good shape at the time so I thought since I was already running when I saw and heard it I should forgo the traditional wisdom of backing away slowly. I didnt have a knife on me like I always do these days back then so I was kinda not in the best position for this kind of situation, but luckily I just ran down the trail that forkes away from it and kept looking out the corner of my eyes and it didnt go after me or anything. I'm lucky it wasn't too hungry lol.
