One of my favorite places in the OBX! Go see the Bodie Island Lighthouse, watch the ships come into the Oregon Inlet with their daily catches, go off road and drive along the coastline! There was a shipwreck near coast entry 4 - I am told it is being cleaned up now :/

Heavy traffic. Usually going 20 miles under the speed limit. Then trucks pulling huge travel trailers driving like they are not pulling anything. Speeding and tailgating. Otherwise, very hot but ocean breeze helps a lot. Lots of places for ORV/ jeeps to off road. Actually saw a lot of crabs on the beach. My dog tried to catch them.

Beautiful beaches. Family friendly. There is something for everyone - fishing, kite flying, water sports. See a lighthouse (make reservations online first). Hike around Pea Island. Take the ferry to see the horses on Ocracoke.

There are numerous campgrounds, 2 active that are run by the Park Service, one just north of Oregon Inlet and one in Frisco, other campgrounds are privately owned. You will find at least one in each village of Hatteras island, go to www.outerbanks.org and there should be a list of campgrounds on the Outer Banks
You can drive a car there
We just walked around didn't go up in the lighthouse itself but the other stuff was free
