We were so excited to have dinner here, and had a wonderful carriage ride out to the restaurant. The host was very nice, and we loved being seated outside. The fresh oaty bread and flavored butter were great. Unfortunately, the food and service went downhill from there. We had to ask for everything (flagging down the server, as he didn’t check on us): water, water refills, soda refill (we never got that one), ketchup for the fries, etc… the burger (ordered med-rare) was burnt and dry, the wine was okay, but $20/glass for a wine that costs $18/bottle back home. Overall, a lovely location, but the need a better cook and more attentive staff.

I wish we had a better experience. Unfortunately, the helpful host and carriage ride are the only good things I could write about. Although the decor was interesting, the restaurant smelled musty. A big negative was the whole vibe, it was so uncomfortable the whole time! It felt like we were thrown back in time, and not in a good way. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, and the food was only okay.

The place is pretty cool inside and the staff are, for the most part, very nice. We ordered the Chermoula Spiced Whitefish and Pan Roasted Steelhead Trout to take. They didn’t have any more tables available for the evening so they were kind enough to allow us to order takeout, even when the kitchen was about one hour from closing. Overall the food was very good just a bit pricey, like most restaurants on the island. We also visited the bar while waiting for the food and just be aware, the drinks can be a bit heavy so make sure you eat! 😅 The only reason I didn’t give them five stars is because the host made us feel completely out of place when we arrived. We asked about possibly making reservation for the following evening and about their dress code which, they immediately looked at us from head to toe and said, usually people like to get dressed when dinning at the woods but, that they would still serve people that looked like us.

We enjoyed our horse drawn carriage ride to The Woods. Amazing good and first class service. Would strongly recommend this during any visit to Mackinaw Island. Closing for season today.
