Depending upon where you enter it will always be a different experience. Know where you are going. Can be flat or can be full terrain. Do your research.

When we first encountered the AT from the road, we thought, "this is it?" Small little unimpressive cow path. But not too far in, the trail was obviously manicured, with trail markers and stone steps built where steep climbs existed. The forest and the views are gorgeous. In the photo are trail markers. The one on the tree means, "take a right at this fork." The one on the rock (lower left) means, "you're leaving the trail." I highly compliment those that maintain this annually.

Beautiful place to hike with family and friends, amazing views!!

Located in Warwick NY, this stretch of Appalachian trail offers wide views of the Hudson Valley and Catskills in two locations (Eastern Pinnacles and Cats Rock). You can take the trail to Cats Rock for a loop or go towards the shelter for a longer loop. The viewpoints require some rock crawls/scrambles. You might also meet some Appalachian thru hikers.

Think there are various routes but the Appalachian section (white) is out and back, so you can go as far as you want before just turning around. Difficulty is rated moderate as there are some up-and-down rock scrambles a ways in. Look up the NY NJ Trail conference description, it will have more info
