Second Waterboss 700 I have owned and installed. Great product, easy to use and compact size. Integrated water filter eliminates the need to plumb another filter inline.

I installed my WaterBoss unit myself a couple of years ago and have been quite satisfied with ease of installation and (at that time) support. Recent Error codes on the unit are keeping me from softening my water and resolutions offered online and in my WaterBoss Guide are not clearing the error. For some reason, I can't get a hold of any support at Water Boss. All this despite leaving multiple phone messages and a request for support on their website. I've recommended the product to others but am now having serious buyer's remorse. I'll be happy to leave an updated message if I ever hear from them, but for now am quite disappointed. UPDATE: Turns out the individual responsible for answering my online support request was out of the office and delayed in responding (I suppose those monitoring calls assumed I'd be contacted by that individual). At any rate, I can share that my problem was quickly diagnosed and a repair part was shipped to me ASAP. My softener is now working like new and my family is again enjoying WaterBoss softened water.

I recently bought a Waterboss 380 water softener and now after every recharge there is dirty looking water for a period of time. Why would anyone get a water softener if it makes the water looks worse at times than without one? I am on city water so contaminants should be relatively low and something the unit can handle. To be fair the water when it is clear is softer and has less TDS so it appears to be working most of the time. I called customer support and they were unfortunately not helpful. They just told me to test my water again and buy additional pre-filters. They did not offer any other solutions or any settings to adjust (maybe there aren't any that will fix the issue). I bought this softener to soften the water and possibly add some filtration, not to make my water look worse. I never had this issue with my previous water softener so it is definitely an issue related to the waterboss unit. I suspect it may be an issue with contaminants and/or iron in the water that the unit is filtering or trapping properly but the unit is unable to get rid of the contaminants and just stirs them up during the regeneration cycle. Whatever the exact issue is, I now have visibility dirty water at times which was not the case before I installed the Waterboss unit. I advise to stay away from the Waterboss unit until this issue is fixed or buy a different water softener.

High salt use is generally caused by incorrect computer settings. You should check to ensure all computer settings are set properly.
The reduction of water pressure in the house is usually caused by the resin becoming exhausted and needing to be replaced. If you place your unit into bypass and the pressure in the house returns, this is a good indication the problem is due to the resin needing replaced.
The WaterBoss Pro 180 and ProPlus 380 are available at Menard’s stores throughout the Midwest.
It is typical for a person to consume a quart of water per day. Coming from a properly functioning water softener, that water contains 75 to 100 mg of sodium.
Absolutely. Copy and paste the following link to get to the ‘Owner’s Manual’ page: https://www.waterboss.com/owners-manuals/. Please call 800-437-8993 if you have any issues finding the one you need.
It depends on what your preferences and needs are. Homeowners with city water may want water treatment to get rid of the heavy chlorine taste of their water. Additionally, city water problems can include inadequate removal of calcium and magnesium carbonate (a.k.a “hard water”) that causes scale build-up and soap scum, and the introduction of PFOA chemicals and lead after it leaves their facility. If you’d like to guard against any of these concerns, we’d recommend looking into a whole house water softener.
Yes, it will. Hard water is hard on laundry. The minerals in hard water not only make detergent less effective, they cause damage to fabric fibers, shortening clothing life by up to 30%. The residue left behind makes clothes look dingy and gray. You’ll definitely see and feel the soft water difference.
In the kitchen, you’ll see the difference on surfaces and fixtures that are free of soap scum and hard water residue. You’ll also save money by using fewer kitchen cleaning products and dish soap. Expensive appliances will last longer when they are not damaged by hard water scale buildup.
Consider adding the Model 900NF Acid Neutralizing Filter to your WaterBoss if your water has a low pH. It prevents corrosion in pipes and fixtures which helps prevent blue/green rust stains.
The Model 900IF is a dedicated iron water filter with a maximum ferrous iron reduction of 15 ppm. The Model 900IF uses greensand media. Greensand is one of the oldest and most effective oxidation technologies. Potassium permanganate is used to regenerate the greensand. In this application, potassium permanganate produces manganese dioxide on the surface of the mineral, and when the water comes in contact with it any iron is immediately oxidized. The iron is then filtered and cleaned away in the backwash cycle. The WaterBoss model 900IF Iron Water Filter can be used in tandem with WaterBoss Models 700, 900, or any conventional softener.
Salt is added to your water softener in order to create a brine mixture that is used during the regeneration process. The salt water displaces the hard water molecules allowing them to wash down the drain. For a more detailed look at how this works, check out our blog article: Why does my water softener need salt?

Water softeners rely on the use of resin to facilitate the ion exchange process that produces “softened” water. The innovative and patented design of the WaterBoss enables it to efficiently use fine mesh resin, which is vacuum-packed inside the tank. This means we can put the same amount of softening ability into a smaller space. The result: less salt and water are needed to refresh the same amount of resin you would find in a conventional system, and in less time, too!
No - a water softener is a household appliance that can actually save you money by using it. Using soft water can reduce water-heating bills by up to 29%. Soft water also requires 50-75% less detergent to do laundry and dishes, and that’s just the beginning!
With the use of patented technology such as directional flow screens, which allow for the proper use of fine mesh resin, the WaterBoss water softeners are much more efficient than conventional softeners resulting in the use of less salt and less wasted water down the drain.
Hard water strips skin and hair of its natural oils leaving skin dry and hair dull. Showering in soft water may give you the sensation that soap and shampoo haven’t been rinsed away. However, soft water thoroughly cleans your skin and hair while leaving your natural softening and moisturizing agents in your skin and hair to do their job resulting in softer skin and shinier hair.
WaterBoss water softeners are available for purchase from Home Depot, Menards, Ace Hardware, True Value, Do It Best, and Sutherlands. Home Depot water softeners are available to ship nationwide, but True Value and Sutherlands sell WaterBoss units in store only.
Yes. The WaterBoss 950 model reduces chlorine, taste and odor from city water for more enjoyable drinking, cooking, and bathing.
WaterBoss is unique in that it uses a “fine mesh” resin. Fine mesh resin is much smaller, meaning more beads are tightly packed into the bed compared to standard resin. WaterBoss also uses a unique vacuum packing process, providing the greatest capacity for hard water treatment in the smallest space possible.
Yes. With the power-loss protection feature, you can save your customized settings utilizing a battery backup in the event of a power outage.
Deep within a well, the amount of oxygen is low. So, certain types of iron that may be present in the water can be dissolved and will not be visible. Though the iron in the water is not seen as it comes out of the tap, any surfaces that the water touches will leave these iron minerals behind. As the water evaporates, all that is left is the iron. When the iron is fully exposed to the air, it forms iron-oxide particles. These iron-oxide particles are what we know as rust which causes staining in fabrics and on sinks and appliances.

Great question. The whisper-quiet operation of WaterBoss along with its compact size allows installation in more accessible places such as laundry rooms and basements. The location you’ll want to choose should be near where the water supply comes into the house, a power supply, and a drain for waste water to flow out of the system. WaterBoss can also be installed in temperate outdoor conditions.
You can visit our website to watch our complete installation video. If you have additional questions, please call our Helpline - Monday through Friday - at 1-800-437-8993, 8am to 5pm EST. Or check the store nearest you that carries the WaterBoss line.
Your WaterBoss softener will use its salt supply at different rates depending how much water you use and how high the amount of hardness is. We recommend checking your WaterBoss at least once per month. Whenever you see water above the level of salt inside, fill the WaterBoss with salt or salt substitute to the top of the container.
Hardness is made up of calcium and magnesium – rock that is dissolved in your water. With this in your water, it is difficult to wash because the hardness prevents soap from lathering. Hardness also leads to scaling in pipes and water heaters. Hardness is described in grains per gallon (gpg) or parts per million (ppm).
You’ll want to test for hardness, iron, and pH if you have well water. Hardness and chlorine should be tested for those on city water. You may contact us to request a FREE test packet from WaterBoss which contains hardness and pH test strips. For those on city water, you can also contact your local water department.
A process called ion exchange is used to remove hardness minerals from your water. The resin in a softener acts like a magnet, pulling hardness out of the water. Once the resin has reached its capacity or can’t hold anymore, it cleans itself by regenerating. Regenerant (salt or salt substitute) is used to clean the hardness off the resin to make it ready to soften your water again. Click here to read in greater detail how a water softener works: https://www.waterboss.com/how-water-softeners-work/.
A regenerant is used to clean the hardness off the resin inside of a water softener. There are currently two types of salt-based regenerant that may be used, pellet and solar salt. For a salt substitute, potassium chloride may be used. However, potassium chloride is not recommended where iron is present in the water supply. Where there is iron in the water, pellet salt with a rust remover is recommended. The use of rock salt is not recommended because it contains impurities.
We recommend that you use a Model 900IF Iron Filter if you notice a “rotten egg” or sulfur odor in your water, or if you have excessive iron in your water (more than 10 parts per million). The Model 900NF Acid Neutralizing Filter is recommended if your water has a low pH.

Yes, there are a few extra supplies that are needed when installing a WaterBoss. Here are the following additional items you will need: 1″ NPT female connectors (2), 1/2″ overflow tube, and a drain line hose clamp. WaterBoss recommends using a braided stainless steel plumbing connector.
The patented technology behind the WaterBoss® Built-In Self Cleaning Filter is the exclusive top chamber inside the tank that holds a unique media, called KDF, that removes dirt and sediment down to 20 microns. This additional filtration media inside prevents these particles from entering your home’s water supply. In addition, it helps extend the life of the softener’s resin bed. It eliminates the homeowner’s need for costly add-on cartridge filters that require frequent replacing and assures “whole-house” dirt and sediment filtration.

Yes we do. Use the Model 900IF Iron Filter if you notice a “rotten egg”/sulfur odor in your water or if you have excessive iron in your water. You will simply install this filter in the front of your WaterBoss. For more information, check out this link: https://www.waterboss.com/water-filters/.
Great question! There are several ways that our WaterBoss differs from conventional water softeners. Check out the comparison chart here: https://www.waterboss.com/water-softener-comparison-guide/.
Yes, absolutely! While it is true that a water softener will add sodium to the water you drink every day, the amounts are very small. If you have a sodium-restricted diet or feel like you can taste the sodium, adding a drinking water filter is a good solution to both protect your home and appliances from hard water and have refreshing water straight from your tap.
The 900 Model regenerates in just 26 minutes. It uses as little as 18 gallons of water and only 3 lbs. of salt to regenerate.
The short answer is yes! Water softeners can reduce water heating bills up to 29%. Soft water also requires 50% - 75% less detergent to do laundry and dishes.
The 700 Model regenerates in just 20 minutes. It uses as little as 15 gallons of water and only 2.5 pounds of salt to regenerate.
