I booked a 2 night stay there so I could attend a nearby weekend event. The campground is adjacent to the Peconic lake a short distance off exit 71 of the LI Expressway. The property itself seems well maintained with several porta potties, an outdoor shower, some chairs and fire pits and plenty of garden faucets and hoses for potable water. The unfortunate part of this campground is the geographical location between two major highways and a freight train line. If it weren't for the miserable weather which masked out some of the traffic noise, you could hear the constant droning of tires riding the washboard concrete of the LIE, the gear shifting of the tractor trailers downshifting to get off the expressway and the 3am whistle sounds of the freight train passing through the various crossings. So for convenience to Riverhead it is a nice location to camp but if you are looking for the peace and quiet of nature, look elsewhere.
