UPMC Newport isn't a right fit as my family's PCP. In almost 2 years I've been registered with Newport, I've only been able to have 1 sucessful appointment out of the last 7 attempts I've reached out to them for. Every appointment schedule attempt leaves me and my husband with the only available. schedule times about 2 months out. What's the point of having a PCP if we can't get in for doctors appointments?

The only thing you will find here is another provider more interested in operating the medical industry greed machine masqueraded as a patient health advocate. Those of us not fortunate to have the legacy public sector Cadillac health insurance policies are only afforded one low cost wellness visit each year, but Dr. Olayiwola billed what should have been a ~$125 covered annual well check visit as a $487 Moderate Outpatient Exam sticking the patient with the entire inflated bill. I’d be more than happy to pay for the $45 tetanus shot that was recommended beyond the standard well check visit, but don’t mistake me as the fool that is going to pay an exorbitant invoice beyond the services provided simply so you and your privileged staff can drive around us commoners in your luxury SUV’s. PS - If the Dr. asks about family history or a condition you noted on your entry form that’s been dormant for 15 years, it seems its not because she genuinely cares about your health, but instead fishing for extra Dx codes to pad the claim and make more money!

I've had two MRIs here and I have no complaints about my experience either time. But... This is my husband's PCP and he was diagnosed with Lyme in 2015. He was treated for it, and we initially thought he was in the clear. During the next several years, he began to experience some strange symptoms. He asked repeatedly if the symptoms could be leftover from the Lyme and was told no every single time. Due to the lack of education or incompetence of the family doctors, he was never tested for any other tick born illnesses. He recently started seeing a functional medicine doctor that is Lyme literate, and found out that he has had a coinfection called Babesia in his system for the last seven years! About a year before seeing the functional medicine doctor, he had some bloodwork done and was told that his levels were normal with no other explanation. As it turns out, the numbers from his bloodwork fell into the range of what is considered "normal," but not for someone his age! His levels were too low and continued to drop in the months that followed. He was told since his numbers were "normal" that it was all mental. In reality, his numbers were too low and dropping because his body has been fighting a parasitic infection for seven years. This whole ordeal has had a huge impact on our lives. You are nothing but a number here. I'd look elsewhere if you are considering this place as a PCP.
