Great place to shoot. Their ranges are top notch, and everyone from the front desk to the range officers were friendly and helpful.
Mike
Great range, friendly staff, the only reason I can't give 5 stars is the magnetic ammo policy. I run 147gr military surplus 7.62X51 NATO through my M1A, it IS full metal jacket brass case that IS magnetic, but it does NOT have a steel core(I dissected the first round in each mag I had with me, pic below) 100% lead in a metal jacket. I qualified at the 50 yd no problem, I go to the 250 yd and got turned away. I can understand the rule on ammunition that is designed with a steel core, but FMJ?! Give a guy a break, especially when he drives an hour to your range.

Hi Tony, you can shoot any firearm that uses handgun caliber ammunition on the steel target range. Thanks TheMick26 for the direct quote from our website FAQs!
Yes. All steel-core ammunition is banned. They check your ammunition with a magnet when you arrive on the range.
$12 per day
We are a first come, first served public range. Admission is by the day, for all day. All ranges and office are staffed during range hours. There are no memberships, just daily admission.
We rent 12 and 20 gauge shotguns only. You must have a current concealed carry or pistol permit and current drivers license to rent one.
Our prices vary. Please check our website or Facebook page for details. http://foothillspublicshooting.cc/range-fees/
Sure can, they are open to the public. Just watch safety video and sign waivers and agreements.
They have range officers that are there to keep everyone safe and probably won't be able to provide much instruction. I think your best bet is to take an intro class or NRA safety class at a local range. That way you will learn safe habits but will be more comfortable when you go to Foothills and have a lot more fun. It's an incredible facility that we are really lucky to have access to.
Yes, also get one free when you pay for the day.
For General admission it is $12 and a $2 lane fee. For a complete list of our prices, they are located on our website. Thank You
Yes, steel cased ammo is fine. No steel core. Thanks!
Wednesday - Sunday
I'm not sure about that, but I do know that you have to pass a shooting test ( stay on target) at 100 yds with some higher calibers
Our longest range is our precision rifle range- 250 yards. There are fixed target stands at 100-, 150-, 200-, and 250 yards. Minimum barrel length is 16" to use that range. Also, all firearm/optic combinations must show proof of zero at our 50 yard range prior to precision range use. The 50 yard range is operational during normal hours Foothills is open. Our precision range is also open during normal hours EXCEPT Wed-Fri it opens at NOON. Thanks for your question and see you soon at FOOTHILLS!
Our longest range (for rifles with 16" min barrel) is 250 yards. All firearms must zero on our 50 yard range prior to using the precision range. https://foothillspublicshooting.cc/ranges/
Hello, I am using an online translator to answer you. I think you can use that to get to know our range. www.foothillspublicshooting.cc
The 50 yard range is surrounded by earth embankments on 3 sides. You can move your target stand up closer than 50 yards. If the firearms have not been shot in a while, or if you are unsure of them, you may want to have a gunsmith inspect them before you try to use them.
Hi Khamani. We do not rent guns except for shotguns for skeet. You must have a CCW permit to rent one of those. If you are talking about getting certified for a concealed carry permit, we do those classes for North Carolina residents. You will bring the firearm you wish to get certified with, 50 rounds of ammunition for it, and your eye and ear protection. We do sell eye and ear protection if you need that. We have CCW classes 8/29, 9/12 and 9/26. They last from 9am to 6pm. Please call the office if you'd like to register for one of those. 704-447-8230
On our 50 yard rifle range, the range officers have a 4" diamond target on an 8.5" x 11" paper inside which you will shoot a group of three rounds. That paper is for that firearm/ optic or irons combination. The range officer will date it 3 months from the date you qualify. You keep up with that paper, and it serves as your ticket to take that firearm to the precision rifle range. The precision range has fixed target positions at 100, 150, 200 and 250 yards.
Yes. As long as the bullet end of your ammo does not stick to a magnet, and the 5.56 is not XM-193.
Please call 704-447-8235 and if I am not available, leave a message and I will return your call. What questions do you have? Most can be answered by visiting our FAQ section on our website. www.foothillspublicshooting.cc
You must be able to legally own it per state and federal requirements. Need eye and ear protection. And sign their waiver and watch safety video. You only need paperwork if it is an NFA item (suppressor, sbr, sbs, ect...)
Here's what's on our FAQ page. www.foothillspublicshooting.cc/faqs What are the rules for bringing youth out to the Foothills Shooting Complex? All youth must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian before they can visit the range. Sorry grandparents, aunts/uncles, brothers/sisters, you cannot sign a legal waiver unless you are the legal guardian. For your convenience, we have the safety video and waiver on this website so parents and legal guardians can watch the video with their children, fill out the waiver for the child, and then sign as the parent/legal guardian where indicated. Once the waiver is submitted, your child may use our range as long as they are with an adult (18 years old and up). Do you have a minimum age to shoot at Foothills? No. You are the best judge of the capability of your child. Children should be able to understand and follow range officers’ direction. Children must be able to wear safety gear correctly. 11 and under must have 1 to 1 supervision.
You may shoot up to 300 Win Mag or 300 Weatherby on our range. Sorry, no 338 Lapua.
Our all-day admission is $10 for pistol and rifle, or $1 for skeet only. Discounts are available on weekdays for seniors, veterans and others. Extra costs-$2 lane fee, $5 for a round of skeet or trap, $10 for the steel target range. Our website has the details www.foothillspublicshooting.cc/range-fees/
We are not open on Christmas Day and New Years Day. We will be open our regular hours the rest of the time.
Yes. FMJ has no bearing on what the projectile is made of. We will check all ammo to ensure that the projectile does not stick to a magnet. Steel or bi-metal projectiles are not allowed on our range. Steel casings are fine. See you soon!
Thanks for checking with us. Joseph is right. Our $2 lane fee on the rifle and pistol ranges includes the use of our target stands, backer board, staple guns and 1 free paper target. You are welcome to bring your own paper targets. We have a steel target range for handgun caliber firearms only. That is an extra $10 fee to use that range. You do not need to bring clays if you are shooting skeet and trap. We sell loose clays if you just need to pattern your shotgun.
Thanks, friend. Black powder arms are welcome at Foothills. See you soon!
Hi Patricia. We do not currently offer archery instruction at our range.
The biggest rifle round allowed is 300 Win-Mag. The largest pistol round allowed is 50 caliber on the paper targets and 45 caliber on the steel target range. Our steel target range offers plate racks and other steel targets for handgun caliber firearms only. We do not allow any ammunition that has a steel or bi-metal projectile. We look forward to your visit at Foothills!
We allow any legal firearms up to .50 cal handguns and up to .300 Win-Mag rifles. We test all ammunition to make sure the projectile (tip end) is not magnetic. Look forward to seeing you!
Go with a friend that owns guns if you do not have one. If you do not have a friend with a gun, make new friends.
Yes. Muzzleloaders are allowed.
szdnc1 is exactly right, thanks! We have a 50 yard range that you will need to shoot on first before you can go to the 250 yard range. You must get a qualification target from the range officers on the 50 yard for each firearm you wish to shoot at longer distances. On the 250 yard range, you can shoot at 100, 150, 200 or 250 yards. The qualification target is good for 3 months, unless you change something on your firearm. See you soon!
Nah its 10 to shoot the paper range. An additional 10 to shoot the steel pistol range. Not sure on the archery range.
Better call tomorrow.
I just bought a lot of ammo yesterday so i could go out there today, but i think im going to stay home. You should give them a call and see.
