I'm assuming the reason we waited for half an hour to be seated, even though I could that over half the restaurant was empty, was because there wasn't enough wait staff? The hostess was extremely rude as well.

I live downtown and I've never had to make a reservation. If it's a large party I would recommend a reservation to be made but if it's just 2 to 4 people typically they have enough space to accommodate.
