Great experience! Knowledgeable tour guide for Elm Springs mansion, friendly and welcoming staff in Museum, souvenir shop, interesting exhibits. Reasonable prices.

There is a very good and interesting museum here. The collection has some impressive artifacts. Regardless of your political leanings... This is a collection worth visiting. Also on the grounds is Elm Springs. A civil war era plantation home. It's not as grand as some homes... But still worth the visit.

Questions & Answers

I say this in all seriousness, but can people of color visit the museum? I'm Asian-American and a massive fan of Civil War history on both side. I've only heard stereotypes of why I shouldn't come down to Columbia to tour the museum.

Yes they can. They are more than welcome. There was over 9000 free black soldiers who fought in the war between the States. We in the South had all nationalities who stood up for what they believed in. You can find and see Info to back it up. This place is open to the public for further education of truth. So I would put any rumors you have heard and throw them as far as you can. This place awesome and anyone can visit. I will have to say, there is no room for people who stir up trouble or want to argue, because all the truth can be found at this wonderful place and if trouble arises, people will be escorted out and authorities called and action taken. So if you want to see a beautiful piece of history and find out true facts, I would suggest making the trip. You will be in awe. Thanks for asking and have a blessed day in the Lord.
